Motorized?

Bill,

You have a motor? Would that be gas, electric or wind-up? Do I need a doctor's prescription, or can you get it "over the counter"? Who knew? :)

Lost and Found

Post by Joe Ribaudo »

LDM,

I have know a few people who said they took some gold from the Superstitions. Some even had ore to show.

"The Kochera account, one of the few instances of which gold has actually been taken from the Superstitions never fails to bring a lively conversation. Many aspects to this interesting issue."

The question is not if they took it "from" the Superstitions, but rather, was it mined from the Superstitions? The leap required to say that gold found with the remains of a leather bag beneath it, was mined from the area it was found in, is a leap of faith.

Many people have "found" gold and treasure in the past, only to find out they actually obtained their "find" somewhere else. The reason for the subterfuges have been varied. Hiding a source for gold or treasure is as old as time.

Did the Kochera brothers have a reason to say that they found the gold laying on a trail? From what you have told us of their background, that seems obvious. Could it be that they actually found the gold in another place in the range, and could not admit it? If it was found laying on the trail, as I understand the Apache taboos, there was nothing wrong with picking it up.

One wonders, why would Haywood make a map to a specific spot where gold has been laying on the ground, free for the taking? I, for one, doubt the brothers found the gold as they have related the story.

Respectfullly,

Joe

I doubt I could tell you any more than you already know about the subject matter. As you know I just putter around and try to help out when I can in my own small way.

I have no desire to end up like Mr Cochera...not for a long while at any rate. :D Their reach is long and they never forgive...or forget.

I find this post very interesting. I have read Mr. Glover's book and the ore documentation, and find it fascinating that an actual sample of the "Kochera gold" matches the "Dutchman's gold".
But may I ask what is meant by this...how did Mr. Cochera end up? I thought he lived to be an old man- if he was born around 1928 and didn't die until 2001? That would mean he was around 73 when he died. Did he die of un-natural causes or what. And who's reach is long and unforgiving? The Apaches? Whatever happened to Hayward? Is he or any relatives still alive. Thanks.

Just Butting In Here.....

Post by Joe Ribaudo »

kk,

I don't know if you will get any answers to your questions, but they are right on the mark. We often get these little teasers, like this one, on the forum. Someone opens up a topic, gives just enough information to create questions, and once the questions come.....sorry, can't talk about it.

If this were the only time it happened, we could say there may have just been a brain fart involved, but it has happened a number of times. If you can't discuss a particular subject, why bother putting it out there at all?

Many of the members of this forum have information that is not available to the general public. Much of it was acquired only with a promise not to pass it along to anyone. It appears that such knowledge is too much for some to keep "under their hat" and you end up reading teasers.

Here is a minor teaser: I have been given information from across the spectrum of Dutch Hunters. Some of it was with permission to pass it along to anyone I cared to. Some of it was to only to be passed along to my partners. A good deal was told to me in trust, to be told to no one.

My teaser was non-specific as to subject. That breaks no promise, but lets you know I am an important holder of a good many secrets. I get the big head without even a hint of spilling my guts. What could be better than that?

Actually, pm me and I will answer your questions in private. I had posted the answers in public, but after reviewing some of Big Mouths comments
I deleted my remarks.

I would rather answer you in private.

And I Really Mean It......kinda.

Post by Joe Ribaudo »

Peter,

Let's see....after this:

"I believe I said in the past that I will not comment on this subject.........
There is more to this story than meets the eye. Thats about all I will say about it here."

And this:

"Which is why I do not talk about this subject here."

We get this:

[kk

Actually, pm me and I will answer your questions in private. I had posted the answers in public, but after reviewing some of Big Mouths comments I deleted my remarks.

I would rather answer you in private.]

(Emphasis in bold by "Big Mouth")

Who are you trying to kid? If you "posted the answers in public", and then pulled a Wyatt on the post, it was because you realized that the "Big Mouths" started with a guy named Peter.

If my post made you realize that you were, once again, speaking on a subject that you shouldn't have, you should be thanking me for reminding you to stand by some kind of principle.

kk has posted here, exactly twice. Perhaps you should get together over a cup of coffee, before you spill your guts to him. Nothing personal kk. :)

Joe was correct about me only posting twice on the forum..I don't post much, mostly because of people like him (although- nothing personel Joe) But he was wrong about one thing..I am not a man...tell him we did have that cup of coffee and that it wasn't near as bitter as he may have wished.

kk,

I did not disrespect you with my comment. It was merely an observation, and correct. It dealt directly with Peter's comments and the direction he was going to take.

Since you did not announce your gender, I have no idea why you think it important to make it an issue of my "correctness" at this point.

"tell him we did have that cup of coffee and that it wasn't near as bitter as he may have wished."

Why would you tell Peter to tell me what you have said on the forum? I do not wish anything "bitter" for Peter or you. At this point, I don't know a thing about you. We do seem to be getting of to a very warm start, I must admit.

You will find that as long as you are respectful, I will return the same. If you choose to start out by insulting my intelligence and motives, we probably won't have many meaningful conversations.

There are many "personalities" on this forum. They don't all get along, all of the time. Peter and I have been spitting and hissing for quite a while now. It really all started with my telling him that the Apache did farm, somewhat, and that there was a difference between Mangus and Mangas. It was downhill from there.

It has come to the point where Peter will not have a conversation with me. Instead, he talks to me through other members, and addressing his comments to the forum at large. Peter thinks I care. It's the funniest thing I have ever seen, next to the "Kino Glasses".

KK, if you want to step beyond your "cup of coffee" with Peter, and join the fray, fine. I will treat you as an equal, same as Peter. I am not gender sensitive. If having a conversation on this forum, with the loiks of me, is just too much to bear......Your choice.

If you have really been reading past posts, you may find that I have had many non-contentious conversations with most of the members, including Peter. If you and Peter are already friends, coffee and all, then you may not want to read them. Never a good idea to let the truth get in the way of a good head of steam.

Bill,

Don't retire just yet! kk seems like an intelligent sort, and may have a lot to offer.

Once I have taken a dip in the pool, to wash off all that "Poo", I will be good as new, and ready to start hurling insults left, right and at everything that shows an eyeball.

I am sooo misunderstood.

How long will it be before every hand is turned against me? Will even my lifelong friend, Bill turn his back on me? Do you think we could pitch this thing as a new reality show to Fox?

It wood be better than a lot of the crap they have on tv now, I haven,t looked at the tv since the girl played the piano and the pig crooned to her. I had to watch that when the pig started to sing, the little bugger was good he had a pretty good voice. NO oiking there or grunting either. I,ll stay tuned for the next scene in the play. Bill 8)

Someone To Talk To

Post by Joe Ribaudo »

Bill,

Do you reckon Peter created kk, so he would have another ally in the "Joe War"? I think that's how Wiz came to be. Just wanted someone, besides himself, to nod their head in agreement to everything he said.

Just kidding Peter. Actually I usually nod my head in agreement, most of the time, when you have something to say. :) You're just toooo sensitive.

If I had know my "Apache being men" comment would have sent you into such a funk, I would have said it long ago. You have been proving my point every day since I made that statement.

Twenty or thirty more years in Arizona, and maybe you will leave New York behind you.

I am sorry for my remarks, but It did feel like a slap in the face that just because I have only posted twice that I was not quite up to the standards of receiving any answers to the questions that I asked. I didn't realize that the info I sought was that "sacred".
This is exactly why I don't post on here..I don't like to "fight" over who knows more or to be belittled for my opinions. Seems like there is way too much of that on here. Although I don't post often, I am what you could call a "lurker" (I admit it) and have been reading the posts on this site for several years, now. Since this is the "world-wide web" you never quite know who is reading this site. I have my own opinions on some of the posts on here and find most posters to be highly knowlegable and quite polite to others. Then there are the others..we all have seen them and know who they are. I do enjoy a lively debate, but sometimes it gets just plain nasty. I do not wish to engauge into a "nasty" debate with anyone.
You are correct in that there are many "personalities" on this board....even some "split" ones I am guessing. Of the 309 registered member, I wander how many have multiple personalities?!!
My knowlege on many of the subjects on this board is limited..I don't pretend to be an expert on anything on this board. My research into certain aspects of the "quest" isn't as vast as other aspects of it. But, for certain reasons I am quite interested in this particular subject. I was particulary interested in why Peter had said he didn't want to end up like John Kochera. What demons had befallen the man, who actually found gold in the mountains. I appreciated his honest answers to all the questions I ask. I will be respectful to all who are respectful back.
Yes, I am a women, but then again, there have been several woman "dutch hunters" since the beginning of the "quest for the gold" (not talking about the olympics here, either!) So, it should not come as such a surpise to anyone that are still may be some amongst you. And perhaps, in time I may even share some of my thoughts and info with all you men (and other women) out there. ( and Joe, regarding your last post, believe me..I am my own person.)
Thank-you.
Respectfully yours,

Some folks on the forum like to keep score..as if the number of posts one makes or the amount of views on a particular subject lend credence to the author or subject matter. My advice is to simply not pay too much attention to some of the forum know it alls.

I can think of a couple of folks who possess an encyclopedic knowledge of the mountains and all that goes with it, but who have never posted a single entry here. How's that old saying go...? "He (or she) who talks the most, knows the least", or something like that. (Me, I never claimed to know anything).

kk, your post should be instructive to us all. No surprise to me that you're a woman - women seem to be smarter than men, in general. (I speak from the perspective of being married to a woman far smarter than I).

You have my respect for your measured response to posts that were obviously meant to bait you. Welcome to this forum.

Wishful Thinking

Post by Joe Ribaudo »

Gentlemen and Lady,

I have still not made one disrespectful comment to kk. That would be wishful thinking and pure fantasy on your part.

Wiz,

The Apache would say to beware the dog that does not bark and the man who does not speak. Women are not "smarter than men, in general". It goes without saying that you are married to a woman who is smarter than you.

Nothing has been said to "bait" kk.

Peter,

I appreciate your kind words, but must assure you that I do not "know it all", nor do I keep any kind of score.

kk,

[I am sorry for my remarks, but It did feel like a slap in the face that just because I have only posted twice that I was not quite up to the standards of receiving any answers to the questions that I asked. I didn't realize that the info I sought was that "sacred".]

Sorry you feel that you were dealt a "slap in the face". You read a great deal more into my statement than was actually there. Not knowing you, I have no idea if anyone should trust you with their most secret of secrets.

If you are going to post on this site, it would be a good idea to get thicker skin, otherwise you will end up talking to people without using their names.

Welcome to the site.

kk,

Actuall, now that I think about it, perhaps it all started when I refused Peter's offer to participate in a sexual act usually reserved for someone of the opposite sex. 8O

That offer was made in Western Apache, but I will be happy to offer a translation for anyone who want's the graphic details. :)

This was my respectful reply to Peter's insulting suggestion:

Peter,

While that might be something you are familiar with, being from back east and all, it is not something that has ever, or will ever be on my plate.
I will conceed that you are the expert on that subject.

Perhaps I was wrong about us having the same dictionary.

Since I can't picture what you are saying, it follows that we can't exchange words in the manner of the Apache. It would be good if you would try again, and attempt to raise the level of your discourse. It is obvious that you have written the words, with little thought. Words are not thought, which brings us back to people reading without understanding what the words, placed together, mean.

I realize that this post will probably not have the desired effect, and I may receive more of the Apache words, in their lowest form of intelligent thought, but I will not respond to that again.

What is called for here is:

Bini' naayik'e'iziig.

Perhaps that would not hurt either one of us.

Respectfully,

Joe

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps while Peter is telling you what he said, he can also tell you what I said. Where will you find the same type of suggestion made by Peter?

I for one am geting very tired of all of your repostings. You repost things you DON'T like, you repost things DO like, in fact the majority of EVERYTHING you post is a repost of something someone else already posted.

If you you do not have anyhting of your own to post, why don't you just SHUT UP?

Way To Serious

Post by Joe Ribaudo »

Reddyson,

My, my......Pretty testy for a guy who only participates when he has something to hawk. :)

You are taking this all too seriously Reddyson. Many of the new members have no idea of the history of the Peter/Wiz/Joe wars. They step in here a day late and a dollar short and think they can tell who's crap doesn't stink. 8O

Now along comes Reddyson, and they think they must have figured it all out correctly, because Mr. Reddyson agrees with them. That's the thing about history, it's hard to change. To get the real story here, all you have to do is look back to the old posts, and you will find out who cast the first stone.

There are people who just lay down and let others walk on them, I am not one. I don't deny that I am a little to brusque for most people to stand, but I don't see any big changes at this age. I have had to apologize to a number of people on this site and in my life as well. I don't like hurting peoples feelings when it's not called for.

The only reason you are angry with me, is because I called a spade a spade, and in your case I hit the nail on the head. You know it's true, but you are not man enough to laugh about it. You made your own bed here.

I have a life, this is just a hobby. Kind of like putting pins in bugs and hanging them on a wall. Here's what you need to do Reddyson: If you don't like what I post, don't read it. I know that concept is difficult for you to assimilate, but you could have some of your computer wiz buddies to explain it for you. :)

It's good to hear from you again. You have been gone to long. I was starting to accumulate way to many extra pins.

exactly why I don't post...

Post by kk »

You see why I don't post more. Joe has a comment for everything on this forum. And Bill who knows what you are talking about half the time. Your spelling skills really nead an upgrade.
Like I said I enjoy a lively debate, but when it becomes nasty like it does, makes me want to sink back into the shadows. This whole thing has gotten so far off any of the subject matter that started this post...that who knows where we are now.
I do want to thank all of you who have welcomed me to the disscussion. I have been reading this forum for quite awhile so I do know some of the different personalities here. Some of you are very knowlegable and are quite respectful of others ideas. Some of the rest are...well???!!! For some it is a hobby, for some it is a mystery and for others it may even be a way of life. I guess I fall in the middle category. I like a good mystery.
Well, Joe did tell me that I would need thick skin to be part of this board. I think my skin can be a thick as any, but sorry if my head isn't as thick as some. Yes, I may be a woman, but, I do believe I can hold my own, even with a group of guys.
Joe, I have been watching you and Peter bicker for along time. Seems you enjoy it more, though. Does it really matter who started it? And it's not just with Peter. Seems you like to bicker with others, too. Some of us "newbies" may be a day late...but, I'm betting we're not all a dollar short. Let's see your gold samples.
thanks
