Spot On
Jan,
You are shorting yourself here. I think your evaluation of Wyatt's picture is spot on.
Although I am one of Dr. Glover's fans, I agree with your assessment of his picture on page 294.
I hope we can put our harsh words behind us, and add to the conversation
here. A moderated forum will keep us all focused on the LDM and not on personalities.
Nice post.

Well Jan maybe I,m the 3rd leg BUT all I can make out is a deer looking in a pool of water? I do see the 1847 with a circle? and what looks like a snake being used as a cross on the 7? good post Bill
rock
Jan,
The rock depicted on page 294 is bigger than it looks, I am sure heavier as well. Yes rocks that have carvings on them were not meant to be moved. Those carvings on that rock can as well be bigger than they appear. Fact is those carvings are indeed spanish, the photo I am sure does not do justice to the size and weight of the rock in the photo.

Rock Writing
Hello Jan,
I have read your articles with a great deal of interest. I also strongly believe the Stone Maps, ie: trail maps, are real. Not so sure about the horse and Priest.
I have seen something resembling this on my last trip in but I could be mistaken. I am returning to the Superstituions in about a month and if it is the same or similar I will be glad to send you a picture.
One question for you if you are willing to comment. What do you think the meaning of the engraving is? I am particularly interested in your feeling about the heart and meus symbols, with emphasis on their location on the drawing.
Regards,
Late49er

Jan; I think Bob ward has it in his book that he and jesse James had found a heart on an old trail but when they got tools to raise it up to look under it ; the cliff had fallen over it! several ton of rock? So they swore to it. He also has a heart map in his book too. bill

The Stone Maps
Jan,
Thank you for your prompt response. I am amazed at the knowledge you folks bring to the table. Me I am just an amateur.
If you would bear with me a bit more. If one were to take this set of symbols and consider them along with the trail maps is there a relationship? If so what is the relationship?
Basically what I am asking is what do these symbols tell you about the trail maps? Keep in mind 1847. Perhaps I am just confused.

Stone Maps
Jan,
Interesting conclusion. Guess there is no relationship between the carvings and the stone maps.
Perhaps I was mis-understanding the carvings. Thought I read: the direction of my mine is the narrow gorge. Observe the triangle in the middle of the heart.
Thank you for the heads up on Mr. Robinson.

Cursum Perficio
Jan,
I am very happy to find this website. I have been doing google searches for "Cursum Perficio" for many years in hopes of finding information on
this map. I never knew it was originally carved on a boulder before reading you article here. The copy I have is on paper, very old and almost exactly the same as yours. The only difference is my copy has the Spanish words across the top. I won't give away your secret but so you will know I speak the truth I will tell you that the last word of that sentence is "Santa Fe".
I have many questions to ask you but I would rather talk via email if you don't mind. Please email me at [email protected]
