First Im not a right wing republican,nor a christian fundamentalist,or even a christian...im speaking from expereince ,having had to endure socialist govt (in greater or lesser degrees) several times,....as for the "mathematics" issue,well.....lthere was a time in britain when over a certain level of income you were taxed 19 shillings and sixpence in every pound earned( there were 20 shillings in the pound then)..was it any wonder there was a "brain drain",and britain ended up almost bankrupt,and had to employ capitalist principles to put things right.Politicians like obama just love people with attitudes such as yours,they see you lot coming a mile off....another band of mugs to fleece......give it a few months or a year,then we will see how your attitudes will have changed.....youll be sorry you allowed yourself to be fooled again. get back to me around aug 09,you will then understand.

lbj, I know that I am pretty dumb but I do not understand your latest post. If you are saying that in total the British pay less for their government than than does U.S. citizen, I would dispute that. If you are saying that the American tax payer pays more in taxes and fees for other services than the Brit does might be true, I don't have enough info handy to dispute this, but this is meaningless as the American tax payer pays taxes then decides what other services he wants or can afford to spend their money on.

We,over here, are taxed to the limits......few examples...petrol approx £5 a gallon ,of which approx £3.50 is tax, road tax licence £180 pound a year...and rising.Council taxes which average around £2000 a year for every household...licences to work are a relatively new taxation scheme,costing the worker around £300 for 3 years for example for a security guard,barman and associated employment.....some trades pay as much as £3000 ..gas installer for example....this is for everyone,british nationals and immigrants alike.
The socialist principles employed here tell us that no-one should be discriminated against because of colour,race etc,all well and good.But its led to POSITIVE discrimination as opposed to Negative discrimination,whereby for instance foreignGypsies have priority for medical consultation before natives, muslims have the right to complain about "pagan" festivals of the western world like xmas and easter,but themselves are immune to any kind of criticism....criticise islam and you might very well find yourself in court charged with committing a "hate crime". Complain about immigration,then you are racist.....complain because a group of travelling gypsies have set up camp on your front lawn and you are a bigot.Complain because some somalian ex goatherder has crapped on your doorstep and you are harrassing a n ethnic minority group.
It would take all day to list the taxes imposed on british citizens,both direct taxes and indirect taxes....every day almost, a new scheme is suggested for squeezing the taxpayer even more.....and what exactly do we get in return? medical care ,cancer drugs etc are rationed,welfare payments seem to benefit the long term layabouts, we have a police force that are less interested in arresting criminals and more interested in capturing litterbugs and people who scratch their arse while driving.

Just as you are standing by and waiting for whatever additional load is coming your way, so to are the American people. You should also stand by and be ready for the attack that is sure to follow your last post. I fear the name calling and labeling is being contemplated even as I write this.
What is being softly spoken about over here, is the fact that the only ones who will not be subject to our coming national health plan.....are government employees. They will always be exempt from the rationing that will surely follow the implementation of......"The Plan". In the end, only the rulers of the country will be living the life we all aspire to. In that respect, we will be no different then Russia, China, Cuba, North Korea and any of the other despot run countries.
It's a bit early to predict that our founding fathers will be proud of the results of our last election. If the American people wake up to the reality of what is being done to this country, it will never happen. We can only hope and pray for that enlightenment.
All of the bad things you listed about your country are coming to pass here. For those who have nothing, including the gumption to get something on their own, it's a welcome "CHANGE". My guess is that there are a few of those people who are posting here. They, of course, would deny that.

Ive got a little time on my hands,so thought id bore anyone who wants to listen to this "socialist " way of life we have to endure over here in britain
Its a popular misconception that the government raises taxes to pay for essential public services which can ONLY be provided by the state....its for our greater good ,were told.The truth is that tax raidsing has become an end in itself....an industry devoted to the business of finding ever more ingenious methods of picking the publics pockets.For example ,our govt spent £270,000 of tax payers money sending council tax officers to a seminar on how to use satellite surveillance to snoop on householders who carry out home improvements.The object being that anyone who installs double glazing or has a greenhouse,or a garden shed etc etc has increased the value of their house, increase in house value=increase in council tax....another few pounds for the taxmans coffers.....Sell your house-you will then get hammered with outrageous stamp duty tax demands-you cant win.
This same surveillance system enables council tax inspectors to note how far from the kerb your rubbish bin is. If it is one half inch further from the kerb than officially allowed,you will be fined and be the proud owner of a criminal record.
Private pensions....our socialist chancellor thought it would be a great idea to raid private pension funds for a bit of cash.....he raised a sum from those pension funds of several billion pounds.The socialist idea being that people who couldnt afford to pay into a private pension shouldnt be disadvantaged by those who could.The end result was that the private pension schemes very nearly collapsed,any pensions from those schemes have been greatly reduced.....it shows what happens to people who try to provide for themselves ..doesnt it?
We have had a lecture on tv recently by one Hilary Benn ..an mp, an avid socialist telling us that Global warning is going to fry us all to a crisp by 2080 unless we pay more taxes ,which of course is the whole point of this global warning scam.He ignored the fact that the world has acrtually got colder the last 10 years,and that in parts of canada polar bears are breeding like bloody rabbits. taxes for this -taxes for that......But i guess that tax revenue is needed to support the people who wouldnt attemopt to do anything for themselves .
The wealth makers are being driven away because of higher taxation,the same as they were in the 1970s.....society as a whole will never function economically without them .A lot of people think of these guys as parasites,....they are the complete opposite .....

Not getting what they feel is their fair share of the pie, they have regressed back to hoping for a system that will give it to them. They have failed to look into the countries which have adopted this theory, and see exactly who is benefiting the most. Once again it's pip's 1%, except this time it's not Warren Buffet, etc.........It's the ruling class.
This is all about President Obama gathering power over this country, which he and his wife hate, and keeping it, forever. Giving away the store, and gifting amnesty to the millions of illegal aliens in this country are the first steps in that process. It's all about power, and keeping it by guaranteeing an overwhelming vote.
Sound familiar? It should, as it can still be read in most history books, but that's changing. Trouble is, no matter what we say, these weak minded puppets will never see the truth. If this system is so bad, along with the people, why are so many folks fighting so hard to get here?
if that is the best you example of why america is the place to be, you dont have much of a case. tell us why its so great here. what makes us the best place in the world? what do we have, besides collapsing bridges and airport bathroom senators, that other developed countries dont?

I might have missed something here I guess regarding taxes,obviously Im unable to give a complete breakdown regarding every tax we pay,and each benefit we receive for that tax. But heres a few examples.......you mentioned garbage control...our council taxes rise 50%-garbage collection is cut from weekly to fortnightly,plus we are subject to £200 fines plus a criminal record for any number of "misdemeanours" we might commit,i.e garbage can open more than the 2mm legal maximum etc. It costs in excess of £25000 a year just to employ each one of these "officials" who monitor us.and there are hundreds if not thousands of these "stalinist guardians" in existence.
Health care......10% of wage is the cost of national insurance stamp....it funds the national health and pension schemes......trouble is where once the national health system functioned pretty well,it is now in a state of disrepair.....treatment,life saving drugs etc are rationed...it largely deopends on which district you live in..in short its a lottery for british natives. Ok though if you are an immigrant, then you will be "fast tracked" and given the best.....cant discriminate against ethnic minorities now can we? the fact that most of them have not paid one penny piece into the system through contributions doesnt seem to come into the equation....but never mind. The fact is we pay more-and receive less,the ordinary person that is....ordinary native briton i should say. However the state officials (and im not just talking about politicians) fare rather better....gold plated pensions,guarranteed private health care, wage rises above what is fair and reasonable,all paid for by the taxpayer.....the taxpayer who now expects very little-and mostly gets even less.
The Socialist and multicularism brainwashing starts early in britain.......Every state school in this country has some kind of ceremony to mark diwali or ramadan and god knows what else. Even lessons devoted to ,what amounts to, promoting homosexuality.....even kids asyoung as 6 have to listen this garbage which celebrates homosexuality,and explains how poofs are no different to anyone else really,and should be allowed to have sex in public toilets if they wish etc etc.At the same time our "teachers" ruthlessly set about dismantling tradition and christianfestivals.Easter plays and nativity and christmas celebrations are frowned upon.In east london hot cross buns at easter were banned in case muslims were offended.......its not illegal to celebrate xmas.................yet...but the way things are hgoing.......
We have had the dictat that sending xmas wishes to people of diff faiths is 2"innapropriate" Christmas is now known as the dreaded C word in some quarters. In the interests of equality a school in Scotland put on a play depicting jesus as a queer and mary magdalene as an alcoholic....try putting on a play making fun out of the koran......you would be in court in the blink of an eyelid, and probabley have a dozen fatwahs on your head to boot.

I had thought to just post the ladies letter and let it lie, but you have asked a question that deserves an answer. I thought mine did as well, but...........
Two hundred and thirty-three years ago this country threw off the yoke of tyranny and became a free nation. That very freedom has been a blessing for us as well as millions of people around the globe. On the other hand, for some people, including pip, Brad and yourself, it ain't so wonderful.
Speaking for myself, I attended Grade School through Jr. High School in Watts. I wasn't bussed there, but walked to school. In case you are unfamiliar with that area, that means we, pretty much, didn't have shit. Things didn't ever change for me as a young man. Eventually I grew up, learned a good trade and started on the road to a better life. America provided the opportunity and the freedom for me to leave my sad childhood behind. I had to work for it, but was able to overcome that impoverished youth, numerous scrapes with the law and two years in jail.
I won't bore you with where I am today, suffice it to say life is very good.
In the short period since 1776, this nation has become the most powerful, and generous country on the face of the planet. We have given our youth, blood, wealth, medicine, doctors, manufactured goods and food to every nation in need. In many cases we asked nothing and received nothing in return. At the same time we were a nation with many faults. We have, at least, tried to right the wrongs that we have done over those 233 years. How many nations can you name who have even tried? How many countries can you name that have given as much as we have, as a nation and as a people? None can even come close. I am proud of that history.
Most of the bridges in this country are 50 years old, or older. There are over 600,000 of them. What percentage of those bridges have failed in the last ten years? Is there a country with a better record, percentage wise, than America? Is there another country of our size with better roads, homes, food supplies, water supplies, hospitals, health care, parks, National Forests, charitable organizations.....The list could fill many, many pages.
There will always be people who have not taken advantage of what America has to offer, and instead want success to be handed to them without breaking a sweat. They are the ones who complain loudest about how evil and unfair this country is. I know, it's always voiced in how poor the other guy is.....never about themselves personally. You are just trying to help the poor downtrodden masses. That's a crock, and you know it. If that were true, you would move to China, North Korea, Cuba, Africa, Mexico. Go somewhere where the fight is really needed, and you could actually do some good......assuming you lived long enough.
You will never do that, because you realize that with all her warts, America is still the best place on earth to live. You remain here because you are hoping that President Obama will take the rewards of another man's labor and hand it to you. At some point in time Socialism always fails, because eventually you run out of other people's money. If Obama succeeds, that will happen fairly quickly here. Who will you turn to for your free hand out then?
I have answered your question, now answer mine. Surely you have an example of which countries you admire for their Socialist or Communist examples of better living for the masses.
