I checked and found just a few short news bulletins about it - they both said the epicenter was around 600-700 miles NW of Aukland in an island area virtually uninhabited. No tsunami reports or any casualties or damage reported from what I can tell. I doubt the lack of reporting has much to do with ethnocentrism - I think it's just cause it didn't happen in a populated area.
