Kenworthy was an interesting individual. However, I think that he did better looking for sunken treasure than land based ones. His book on the LDM mentioned looks impressive but is filled with Kenworthy's habit of reading more into the terrain than what is there. (Ref. his other books on treasure si...

Let me get this straight...

Just one more thing... The whole Tonto National Forest - including the Superstition Wildertness - is shut down? Does that also mean shut down to day hiking? To everything?

Disappointing...

So, what is it going to take to open the Wilderness back up? It has to rain, I would imagine... But how much?

Fire Closures

Please forgive me for the being one of those "out of state" people - and somewhat ignorant about what is going on at the Superstition Wilderness... But, i noticed in Ron's post on the treasure trove that there was a Forest Servie Fire Closure. What is closed at this time? Is it only certai...

Stumps

There are references, I believe, to Tex Barkley referring to "Horse Country" actually being the Peters Mesa area. There are also cut tree stumps there. I do not think Peter wanted to imply that there are NOT cut tree stumps at Horse Camp Basin. They are just not probably the ones referred ...

Markers

While my knowledge of the Superstitions is far from complete, I am "a little" experienced with parts the mountains' interior. I have been in areas that did not have defined forest service trails and have seen markers - some fitting the description of the Deering Markers. But were they? Pro...

I am somewhat surprised that this topic has not generated much discussion. Perhaps it has been discussed here before and all has been said. However, I have always felt that of all the supporting stories of the LDM the one of the Two Soldiers has been the strongest. I, for one, have waddled through a...

After re-reading my post and those of others here on this topic I wanted to clarify something. I did not want to imply I thought everything Ted Cox said was a tall tale. And I believe the man is far from being an outright liar. I know Ron knew the man and his family. I just think Tom Kollenborn migh...

Could have been "Lust for Gold"

There was a movie with Glen Ford and Ida Lupino in 1948 called "Lust for Gold." Ford was the "Dutchman" and Lupino was Julia Thomas. It alternated between the present time (1948) and the late 1800s.

Cox and Ruth

Thanks for bringing that Kollenborn article up. I checked it out. Obvious Tom has seen some of the discussion here. In particular about Ted Cox. After reading Tom's article I have to say maybe he (Tom) is not so wrong about Mr. Cox. We must take all things with a grain of salt. Mr. Cox included. I d...

Hmmm...

Unfortunately, most of the time I read these postings is when my LDM materials are not handy. So, yet again, I am replying from "memory." So, forgive me if I am wrong. It seems that the Scott "statue" is something Barry Storm found and is nothing more than a "rock that looks...

Wilburn Goldfield, and the Peraltas

I thought I would throw in reply - if for no other reason than to get the discussion going on here at the "new" location. I do not know what to make of all of Wilburns claims. But, I believe based on all accumlated relavent information, the LDM was NOT at Goldfield. That is my humble opini...
