Wiz, I have been meaning to post something in regards to this topic but have failed to do so. But, I wanted to go ahead and mention a couple of things today - though I do not have exact information to give you. But something is better than nothing. Greg Davis obviously has a lot of info on the two i...

To answer rochha's question: Tex told Walt Gassler that back in the 1940s. That appears in Gassler's manuscript - which is available from the Superstition Mountain Museum bookstore. Helen Corbin also used sections of Gassler's manuscript in her first book, "Curse of the Dutchman's Gold." A...

Those are all good points. Whether Keenan and/or Purnell got a copy of Ruth's map, I don't know. I suppose one can argue a good case either way. And also argue whether they were involved in Ruth's death - even considering the obvious "evidence." The 1934 civil case has been brought up befo...

The gentleman on ebay sells many LDM and general treasure books. He sometimes auctions the maps in question. Just go to ebay and look up "Lost Dutchman" and chances are he has something for sale. He goes by the name "atvdesign." So, if he is not selling the maps now, one could pr...

Right, Wiz. There is. It has been two years... I think... since it was discussed... But Ron Feldman posted that he knew who it was that Don Shade saw that was sneaking around the area where Gassler was found - and indicated he (Ron) didn't think it was a big deal. In the Unsolved Mysteries program, ...

Perhaps this thread should be called "Gassler's Gold"... Not to get anyone mad, but.... There was a TV show called "Unsolved Mysteries" and it had an episode about Gassler and the LDM back in 1987 or 88.... This program was what I thought might have been what bill711 was referrin...

Joe... You are a hard one to convince. For what it is worth, I am convinced... But you seem to have some theory that has to have something to the contrary. So, good luck to you. All in all, people put TOO much into Adolph Ruth and his information. His death was a mystery. But... the supposed info he...

Gentleman, I stand corrected. I went back and checked my file of newspaper articles on the Ruth disappearnce. It appears I was confused. First Water is mentioned. But in the context of the starting point - or base camp - of the search parties. Not Ruth. I also found several articles stating that Rut...

There are several references to Ruth taking off from First Water. That was the ranch ran by Tex's son, Bill. These are from newspaper stories of the time. I have several of them. Glover did not just get a statement like that out of the blue. Why did he go from there??? Good question. Perhaps because...

Alabaster Cross

A few nights back, I was re-reading through parts of Curt Gentry's "The Killer Mountains." I came across something I had forgotten about for a long time - but something that kind of always intrigued me. In the book there is a reference to Maria Jones "blowing up" a white alabaste...

To follow that train of thought... Yes. Many here seem to be concerned a lot with research and history. But, do not think field research is not being done. There is an amazing group of individuals on this forum and I would say most - if not all - have put in LOTS of field research. But, people are v...

Joe,

What does "Company 'D' of the Second Battalion Mo. S. M. Cav." mean?

Is it Company D of the Second Battalion "Missouri"(?) S.M. Cavalry? Is "Mo." Missouri? And what is "S.M."?

Perhaps I should indeed take "Cloud Imaging 101." It might help. I sort of felt the same way with some of the pictures in Don Shade's book. He'd have a picture of a rock formation and say something was supposed to be represented there... and I'd look and see nothing. So, it's me. I'd fail ...

I looked at the site since it has been expanded. Perhaps it is just me... or the pictures do not do the subjects justice... but I just cannot make out the things that Mr. Westwood says are there. They all look like nature objects. And nothing sticks out. One would have to use their imagination to se...

In Bark's manuscript, Bark said that Rhiney Petrasch said that Waltz said that... (sounds like "hear-say?") one time Waltz left camp to get supplies. He came back and found his "partner" Weiser dead. There was a frying pan left at the site with holes shot it in. Waltz then buried...

I suppose one of the things Waltz left, though not for later use, was a frying pan. One damaged either by gun shot holes... or holes from a pick axe.. depending upon whose version of the story one prefers...

Good point. I was probably conservative saying a "few weeks." It could have been longer. Especially if his burro were not ladened down with pots and pans and tools. He probably did stash stuff near the mine. Makes one wonder if some of this has ever been found... of course, not recognized ...

I suppose if Waltz only had two burros, that definitely would have limited how long he could go out. If he was just going into the Superstitions - straight to his mine, then he probably could have carried enough for a few weeks. But, that makes you wonder about the stories of him being gone all wint...

In "The Killer Mountains" it is reported that Glen Magill had interviewed Gertrude Barkley. Mrs. Barkley told Magill that she knew Waltz (or knew of him) when she was a little girl. She said Waltz had two burros. At one time she even knew their names. But, when Magill interviewed her, she ...

I was able to recall a web site that had photos of the stone maps.
