Joe, My Mother and Father always told me that anything worth having is worth working for. If the pot at the end of the Stone Map Trail is worth anything we will all have to work to find the trail. I don't intend to tell you where I think it is because like you I still have a lot of searching to do. ...

Charlie,
Rojas was around the area approximately 1747 to 1767. Where can we find that information you said is available on the internet or is it a book for sale? I appreciate the help.

Stone Maps

Has anyone found any information about a Jesuit Priest by the name of Father Carlos Rojas? He was the Local Visitor in the Pimeria Alta church chains.

Stone Map Authenticity

Joe, Some new revelations for your consideration. The maps are definitely real (including Bobbi's horse). They were generated in 1766 +/- 6months. The area is in the SM's, but not sacred to anyone (Peter, Please note). I have a name and an image, photo of a painting, of the author. The location of t...

STRANGE ENCOUNTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

While hiking in the area I accidentally came across two men last week while searching for an old mine tunnel in the Superstitions. They came off of the SW side of Tortilla at about Cottonwood Canyon. Crossed Peters Canyon below the washed out rock dam and went up on Peters Mesa about 1/2 mile north ...

In case anyone wants the book from the library, I will return it in a couple of weeks. It is quite interesting I can see why "the church" would prefer it to be off the shelves, but it is still there. The correct title to find it is "A Violent Evangelism, The Political and Religious Co...

To Quote Roger: "Bilbry claimed to have found the stone cross's on the South end of Tortilla Mtn below some "X"'s that were carved on rocks. He did dig out an old shaft about 20 ft. deep that had some signs of quartz in the bottom, but the crosses were found buried close to it under g...

THE BILBERY CROSSES

I have recently read a book by Ralph Holder, “Mistic Memories of the Superstition Mountains”. Mr. Holder referenced a “treasure list” that was supposed to be part of the Jesuit treasure removed from Mexico by the priests prior to their expulsion. The translation was apparently misinterpreted. I woul...

If one were to check the maps drawn by Kino or Manje you would find Arizpe identified and correctly spelled per the Spanish. Even Bolton, Burris, and others who have recreated the maps of Pimeria Alta show Arizpe in its present location. I have researched and visited the areas of Arizpe, Cumpas, Ure...

Aurum, I'm going to quit telling you anything. In your ears and out your finger tips. Tracy/Heidi, That is the story as related by Aurum. Except there is some documentation to back it up. Now maybe you understand why we are trying to determine the origin of the Maps, not to the Peraltas or Gonzales ...

Heidi, The area suggested as the location of the Stone Map discovery is very rough and has no space to dig a hiding spot for the large flat stones. For one to accidentally trip over the Maps a hiker would have to check every stone tripped over on the climb and there are many every where. It is just ...

To continue with Aurum's thread a little, a priest was sent with each exploration effort to convert the Indians, obtain mining areas from them, to convince them that working the mines for the priests was for their new God, to create maps of the areas and to watch over the Kings interests. When ever ...

The Stone Maps

If my memory is still working I believe Dos Buttes was one of the best crossings, year round, going north to the SM. However, the "entrance" into the mountains was primarily (not solely) to the west and north of the mastif in my opinion. There are multiple entrances into the range from tha...

Wiz, This is a good one. If we can Track the sightings perhaps we can focus in on a more specific area than the SM for Waltz's treasure site. I believe Holmes followed Waltz to Hidden Springs and Mormon Flat crossing then on to Tortilla Flat before Waltz scared him off. Several directions he could h...

The Stone Maps

I have been perplexed by several questions. Are the Maps decoded by signs and symbols? Are the Maps decoded by mountain formations? Did Kenworthy, Robinson, or Blair decipher the Maps correctly? Were the Maps created by the Spanish, Mexicans, Jesuits, or a hoax? What is the intent or function of the...
