Re: USGS Circular# 609 "Mercury in Soil Gas and Air ~~~~~"
Joe, I agree with Oro here. Yes on both accounts. As a matter of fact, it is the basic premise of the entire circular. Paul, Are you kidding? Maybe you missed this line: "Higher concentrations of mercury are found in air over base- and precious- metal ore deposits than in air over unmineralize...

Re: USGS Circular# 609 "Mercury in Soil Gas and Air ~~~~~"
The conclusion I make based on this circular is that Hg can be detected in the air above a known Hg deposit in the Superstition Mountains - no more no less, and shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. The connection between Hg content in the air above the Superstitions and precious metals deposit...

Re: The FIRST Set of STONE MAPS
Garry, I've been noticing the same problem with photos overlaying text making it difficult if not impossible to read them - it doesn't happen all the time, but for the last 3-4 weeks it's been happening more often.

Re: The FIRST Set of STONE MAPS
I'm completely convinced that the vehicle is a 1939 Olds, however I've heard some claims that the stones in the B&W photo are NOT the same ones that have been displayed for years - I just wanted to convince myself that isn't even a possibility. I can see what you're doing with photoshop - I just...

Re: The FIRST Set of STONE MAPS
That works, but unless you have the exact measurements of the front grill for the 39 Olds, how do you know what scale to use?

Re: The FIRST Set of STONE MAPS
Yup - if you remember the discussion on TNet it was that same specific area that locked us in on the 1939 Olds as well. The other thing was the number of "slits" in the grill section above the bumper - couldn't find another truck or car in that time frame that matched. I would love to get ...

Re: The FIRST Set of STONE MAPS
Novice, Congratulations! You hit the nail on the head. The car is indeed a 1939 Oldsmobile (car not truck). I have it from a good source, very close to the family, that Travis Tumlinson ALWAYS drove Oldsmobiles! And as that is the case, the 1939 is the ONLY one it could be. Best-Mike Mike - the 193...

Paul - your package arrived here today too - THANK YOU! I haven't had a chance to delve into it yet but it is very much of interest to me. I owe you yet another one. Joe, You're welcome - it wasn't my work other than to compile all the individual scans into .pdf "documents" so to speak to make it easier to sort through them. Due to the subject matter of the journals, I don't really know how useful they really are, but some of the articles may be intere...

One last thing - I don't believe there have ever been photographs posted of what is called the "Camp Ore."
Ben, Klondike, Will, anyone.... does anyone have a photograph of that ore that can be shared publicly or privately?

Re: The Gold
Joe, you said: I don't doubt that there is no TE in the tests that he had done I'm terrible with trying to follow double negatives :). Are you saying you don't believe there is any Te in the results of Dr. Glover's analysis? I'm not sure how you can make an assumption one way or another unless you'v...

Re: The Gold
Klondike, I agree that I (speaking for myself) can certainly be educated in regards to geology and mineral formation, but the tellurium issue is another matter. Simply put, there just isn't any public documented evidence that Te exists in the jewelry or "camp ore" samples. While it's quite...

Hello Paul, Not sure I would throw the SS Jesmond account under the bus quite yet. Pretty crowded under there anyway with the Petrasches. Perhaps looking at the account of James Newdick and the Steamer Wesbourne might be helpful. Seems they ran across the same Island about a month later. Believe it...

Re: The Gold
Oro - on page 3 of the link below you'll see 2 different photo's of the matchbox. From what Mr. Jolhnson says, the dark areas (especially in the diamond shaped inlays in the lid) are the AuAgTe compounds which exist in the jewelry and thus the ore that the matchbox was made out of. http://www.thelos...

Re: The Gold
I understand the concept of the tellurium compounds of gold and how they can occur, but Waltz's gold (including the jewelry gold we've seen photos of as the matchbox) seems to be primarily native elemental gold deposits correct? So the tellurium compounds of gold appearing in the camp and jewelry or...

Re: The Gold
I recall that discussion which took place awhile back and had thought of looking it up again when the subject came up in the other thread. Since I'm with Joe on this one in that I really know little to nothing about geology or especially gold bearing ore formation, I have nothing to add to the discu...

Re: 82 Pound Gold Bar Cache Found
Neat story Mike - One of the things that makes it more believable to me is the $ amount of what was found. While $500,000 is nothing to sneez at, neither is it the millions that some folks claim they've found. I wonder what the value of those bars would have been from a historical standpoint as oppo...
