Was Kochera Part Indian????

Larry, Several interesting statements by Crazy Jake on his two meetings with Kochera a day apart: 1. the more I looked at this man the more I saw indications that he was an Indian 2. There at the back end of an old International Carryall, making coffee on a Coleman stove on the tailgate, was my Indi...

Re: The John B. Kochera Story Revisited

Paul
In answer to your earlier question about the hand writing that is cut off on the one page Peck note above, there are two items in the lower left hand corner as follows:

when did you find the bag of gold? Arrow pointing up to '62

did he in 1942 get any of the 50.000? tribe got it

Re: The John B. Kochera Story Revisited

Garry, Kochera is a very interesting subject and it definitely generates a few opinions in the Dutch Hunter crowd. I suspect you have a lot more research done that is yet to be shared with the Forum and I am looking forward to it. I would like to make one observation about conclusions in general tha...

Superstition Wilderness Rules on Metal Detector Use

Hawkshaw, I have an old Tonto National Forest publication dated August/1992 that gives a little detail on the use of metal detectors in the Superstition Wilderness which I have uploaded to my photo album on the Members Photo Gallery. Click on the link at the top left of this web page labeled "M...

2010 Rendezvous

I would also like to give a big THANKS to Wane, Randy, and Greg for another successful Rendezvous. Having made all 6 of them, I believe this one to be the best attended by the "sages" of LDM/Arizona history - Tom Kollenborn, Bob Corbin, Bob Schoose, Jack San Felice, Jack Carlson, Greg Davi...

Re: Peralta Stone Maps - Clarence Mitchell Era to the Present

Joe, I have not done any more research/analysis on the Stone Maps for a number of years. Decided the code was too complex and without some more knowledge/info than what was available, I would never get to the end point. So in answer to your question, I do not have any new information to share. I do ...

Re: Peralta Stone Maps - Clarence Mitchell Era to the Present

Wayne, The two map sides of the Stone Maps did not appear to have any appreciable wear. I'm sure that some of the photographs taken by some of the forum members recently have enough resolution to answer that question - assuming they are the same stones I saw back in the early 1990"s at the Mesa...

Peralta Stone Maps

Paul, It may have been me that talked about seeing the Stone Maps in person and I have posted that story on this forum in the past. Here is what I posted on this subject on 9/17/2006: "I also saw the Stone Maps on display in the Mesa Southwest Museum in the early 1990's that were in a glass dis...

MOEL - Peck Agreements

Joe, There was no money exchange between Peck and MOEL except it appears that Peck believed MOEL owed him money for their share of the expenses in searching based on the Stone Maps. There were at least two written agreements made between MOEL and Peck - the first dated 7/26/1964 and the second dated...

Re: Peralta Stone Maps - Clarence Mitchell Era to the Present

Mike, I checked the ARS number in the Peck's lawyers document and verified it was ARS 41-771. I dug around the web a little and found out that as usual for government, Arizona has completely renumbered the state statutes and the complete list can be found at: http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ArizonaRevi...

Re: Peralta Stone Maps - Clarence Mitchell Era to the Present

Mike, Another item I found in Greg Davis' Richard Peck Collection in the MOEL file was a letter dated 3/6/1965 from S. Earl Pugh, Jr. to Hale C. Tongnoni who was a lawyer retained by Richard Peck. It appears that Pugh was an attorney in Tongoni's firm. Part of this letter was a summary of Arizona la...

Bob Corbin On The Stone Maps

While going through Greg Davis' collections earlier this month, I found a letter from Bob Corbin to Greg dated 4/19/2005 that was handwritten on Helen Corbin's letterhead stationary which I have a copy of. Greg said he had posted this letter some time ago, but thought I would post it again to see if...

Re: The Stone Maps

Ralph, I also checked the web for photo's of a 1946 Dodge. The sedan version was certainly not it as the headlights had been integrated into the fender that year. The pickup's still had the pod headlights as they didn't change the tooling very quickly after the war on them. However, the 1944, 1945, ...

Paul, Yes, if nothing gets in the way, I plan to attend the 2010 Rendezvous and will probably spend at least a week in the Phoenix area. Can't resist spending some more time in Greg's collections!! I have made all 5 of the Rendezvous' so far so hate to quit on it now. Are you still planning to bring...

New Details On The Stone Maps

I spent 5 days in Phoenix earlier this month and got to spend 2.5 days digging in Greg Davis' collections which is always an adventure. I did come across three pieces of information that are of interest on the Stone Maps as follows: 1. In the Ron Lorenz File there is a 4 page hand written overview o...

Indian Ghost Dance

Bob Schoose's Goldfield newspaper, Territorial News, has an interesting article on the Ghost Dance in its Feb 10, 2010, issue. The article starts on Page 1 and continues on Pages 6, 9, 11, and 12.

Missing Hiker In The Superstitions

There is an individual, Jesse Capen from Denver, Colorado, who has gone missing in the Superstitions since Dec 5th. Jesse is a white male, about 35 yrs old, 5'8'' tall, 205 lbs, and has dark hair and eyes. He parked his jeep at the Tortilla Ranch Trailhead and set up a tent camp at Kane Spring area....

Re: The Trail of Jacob Waltz’s Gold Ore

Thought I would offer a few comments on Wasp's ore analysis report and the recent comments by Larry and Garry. 1. The USGS has a number of published "models" on different types of ore deposits from across the U.S. Each of these models has a Model Number associated with it. These models wer...

The closest I got to the area of Kenworthy's "X" is the below photo taken in 2003 when coming down off Black Top Mesa and looking back toward Bluff Spring Mtn. This photo is close to the one Chuck put on the back cover of his book, "Treasure Secrets of the Lost Dutchman". The &qu...

The Tortilla Cauldron Complex

The picture below shows the Tortilla Caldera in a pink color on the upper right of the three circles on the map. Note that Tortilla Caldera is much younger than the Superstition Cauldron as Wasp noted in his posting. This should give some perspective of the areas involved.

Ore Analysis

Wasp, Not being very educated on mining/geology and unable to find anything on the internet, had one question on the ore analysis report you shared with us. The very first line on the report lists the following: Ep-Q Alunite Au. / Au - Ag - Te. Can understand the alunite, gold, silver, and tellurim ...

Re: The Trail of Jacob Waltz’s Gold Ore

Garry, If you look closely at the first Dutchman ore matchbox photo that Wasp posted above, you can faintly make out the separation lines where the lid of the box comes off. There does not appear to be any evidence of a hinged top, but it appears to just pull straight off. I am struck again with the...

Re: The Trail of Jacob Waltz’s Gold Ore

Garry, I'm going to let you run down this rabbit trail by yourself if you don't mind. I have way too much on my plate for LDM work currently and don't have time to dig into this topic. I have spilled my modest knowledge on the subject already and Greg probably needs to correct some of that. I though...
