Starman,
Don Shade was a great man to those that knew him well. He was like a grandfather to me. We miss him very much. Though many of us do not see the mountains as Don did, we know that he firmly believed in his own search and his own philosophy (which was very deep and in the light of the truth ...

Re: Missing Hiker In The Superstitions
Randy,
Happy New Year pal!
I read a thread on Capen that gave some more info. His mother posted a couple times on that thread - Capen is a physically capable man and capable in the back country. Cane Springs is on the Peters Pack Trail, just before a big climb to the pass, going to Peters Canyon ...

Re: Missing Hiker In The Superstitions
Joe,
Where do you think this Jesse Capen is?
Only knowing what I have read here about Capen, I think he is in Pistol Canyon.
Can anyone give a full story? Anyone have any ideas where he is?
Jesse

Re: Missing Hiker In The Superstitions
Joe,
I can hardly believe those requests made by the Sheriffs' offices. They are absolutely ridiculous! We are not untrained and we know those mountains better than they do, by far.... And we do have a better understanding of some dynamics. If someone does find a body, we know what to do - don't ...

Re: The Trail of Jacob Waltz’s Gold Ore
I have two issues with this report, so far.
1. This analysis says the ore came from the Tortilla Caldera. How did they come to that conclusion? Most of the Superstitions have the same geology, all created the same way during the same geologic period. As some of the experts suggest, there are three ...

I have a problem with Gassler only spending three days and how this story is unfolding. Looks like to me that Gassler had intended on confirming what he thought to be the LDM, but that his elderly situation prohibited him from keeping his planned schedule of reaching camp the first day, an easy hike ...

Gene Baker
Novice,
Gene Baker worked for the Ok Corral Pack Stables, drifting through with his family. He was a good hand, a good cowboy, and horseman. I don't remember how long he worked for the Ok. Probably three years plus. I don't know where he went, but if I remember right about eight years ago we heard ...

Sorry to hear that Joe.
If it is any relief or consolation, Chuck had diabetes as long as I knew him. He probably did not have the best personallity for that disease. He always seemed to wound, worried, and on the go. My grandmother who is 84 has had it since she was about 40. Of course everyone is ...

Chucky
All,
Just to clear up something. Charles “Chuck” Kenworthy had spent lots of time in the mountains after 1984. I packed Chuck on his last trip into the mountains with OK Corral Pack Stables in 1996 or 1997. I believe he died in 1998. Chuck had spent all of those years, the time in question ...
