Walker or talker

Post by rgm840 »

A challange for the coming season.

In May 2004 those that will put boots on the ground could share their
year's success in picture or story form.

We could have several categories. (Open to suggestion)

Best picture

Best adventure, experience, or story.

Best artifact found (Pictures only, you left it where you found it, right?)
(Could be a rock formation, monument, etc.)

Most gold (any gold?)

This would separate the walkers from the talkers.

Our team of five will enter all categories.

Bring it on.

The gathering could be a dinner cruise on canyon lake.
Are you a walker or a talker?

GPS not required. A picture will do. Humor noted.

The purpose was to back off the BS'ers and offer a challange to those
that really intend to do something this year. The first thought was to wager
with Azmula that my team would have more to show for the season's efforts than his.
The team didn't want the attention. He does seem to be set for a serious effort.

Possibly there are other groups out there that have an objective this year.

A picture of the shaft discovered by Glen Magill should be worth a few points.

How about a gathering of those that put in a serious effort? Buy your
own dinner, tell stories, and show pictures you would wish to share?

Years ago I happened upon a four foot wide switchback trail up the side
of Bluff Spring mountain. I made a half hearted attempt to find it this
past year. Something like that I would be pleased to show the world,
GPS points and all. It doesn't go to the bottom of the mountain. I
remember it being near the top. I'll probably look for it at least one
trip this year.

I've seen references in a couple of places (Gentry's book and the Carlson/Stewart book, as well as other places I can't remember) that indicate that Magill's mine was buried when his dynamite cache mysteriously exploded. Carlson says the Green Suits were busily covering up all remaining traces (that was at the first printing of his book, circa 1995). I sure couldn't find it, although I think I found the cliff above it. It's supposed to be in a very hazardous spot. This is certainly true if it's where I think it is, which is on the north west side of Bluff Spring Mtn, about 1/2 mile south of Magill's camp.
I only say this to alert anyone who might want to look for it, since it is a dry hole at best, hard to get to, and maybe not worth the risk. The Superstitions are full of risky places, but some are worth taking and some aren't. I guess it depends on who's doing the taking.

But you're right, a picture of it would sure be worth some points!
