Al Morrows Death

Post by Joe Ribaudo »

Anyone know what made Al go into his dig during a rain storm? This is a serious question. It is highly unlikely it was to get out of the rain. He may have said something to some of you old timers about that very subject.

Could be as simple as he wanted to get away from some lightening. I know I have been hiking several times and wished I could crawl under something untill the lightening passed.

LDM,

Your assessment of Al is on the money.

Everyone was welcome in his camp. Food and water were always offered. My dad could never bring himself to accept the sandwich which Al would graciously make, since hygiene, by necessity, was never a priority with him, and pop was a little finicky.

It is unlikely he got under that boulder to check it's stability. Al told my uncle, more then once, to never go into his tunnel to get protection from a rain storm. He told Chuck it was unstable and extremely dangerous, especially when it was raining. I assume he gave this warning to all who visited his site on a regular basis.

Thanks for your reply.
