Jesuit Treasure in Nueva Espana

Post by Roger »

The topic of Jesuit treasure in New Spain has been worked over to some degree on the forum, but I was reading back through Eugene Conrotto's book, Lost Gold and Silver Mines of the Southwest, and found a reference on Jesuit treasure written by Charles W. Polzer in the August, 1962, issue of Desert Magazine. Luckily, old issues of Desert Magazine are available online and here is the link to that issue:

Polzer makes a very strong case of the Jesuits not mining gold and silver and not hiding large treasures prior to their 1767 expulsion.

The article starts on Page 22 and is a very interesting read.

Father Polzer......

Post by Joe Ribaudo »

Roger,

Many thanks for that link to Father Polzer's article. He was a man of great eloquence, and he describes the always present treasures of the Southwest with real feeling. He was a habitual camper, and loved the outdoors.

It took me a number of years, but I came to the same conclusions as Polzer, in the end. I understand that this is, basically, a treasure forum, so I know I won't win many friends with that statement, but it's all I am left with.

I still hope someone proves me wrong.

See you in October.

Take care,

Joe
