Peralta Tintypes

Post by zentull »

Tintypes came about in the mid 1850s. There are several sources relating to Peralta tintypes. These tintypes are of a specific mine in the Superstitions from several distances. We have one member who may have seen reproductions of these. Tintypes were a thing of the past by the turn of the century and while they continue to exist are a novelty primarily.

The Peralta pictures would have been after 1855 and likely before 1890. We have no sources or stories of an expedition after Phoenix was settled. So we could push the latest date back to 1870 easily.

The stone maps always get the 100 years old or relative date that places them around that time frame of the 1860s. A wealthy family certainly would have such a camera with all likelyhood or a photographer perhaps? Why carve a map when you have photos and other locater maps? It would seem to me that regardless of a dozen other anomalies, this is the one that still bothers me.
