Dutchman's Gold/Massacre Grounds

Ron, All that you say is of course true. You explaine your focus on the east end of the range, by pointing out the existing mines of Superior and Globe. Do you consider them closer to the Superstitions then any mine on the west end of the range? My uncle always said their was a mineral belt, running...

Al Morrows Death

LDM, Your assessment of Al is on the money. Everyone was welcome in his camp. Food and water were always offered. My dad could never bring himself to accept the sandwich which Al would graciously make, since hygiene, by necessity, was never a priority with him, and pop was a little finicky. It is un...

The Fish Map

S.C., You should try to come out your shell. Let me know what you really think. O.K., A double spaced opinion has got my attention. I agree that with Ruth, coincidence is a possibility. As to his not leading anyone to anywhere, that of course is totaly untrue. Give the man his due. Over the years he...

The Fish Map

S.C., It might be interesting if you could prove that Waltz, and Ruth were at the Manganese deposit which is on the Fish Map. Two of the main figures in the LDM legend, at the same place on an unrelated map. Unrelated to them, that is. I thought you wouldn't blink on this one. As to that most import...

Al Morrows Death

Anyone know what made Al go into his dig during a rain storm? This is a serious question. It is highly unlikely it was to get out of the rain. He may have said something to some of you old timers about that very subject.

The Fish Map

For those who think their could be some validity in this map, I have a question. If you could place two players in LDM history, in the same place on that map, who would they be? Where would they be? Remember, no one has found a thing using that map. Who do you think is the most important person in L...

Dutchman's Gold/Massacre Grounds

Ron, I only used that quote because of the mention of the Manganese, Not to question what you had said. You have forgotten more then I will ever know concerning geology and the history of the Supes. A geologist friend had to tell me what I had found and even then I did not put any importance to it. ...

Ron , The issue of the area being devoid of mineral with no mines or rich deposits is a relative statement. True there were no rich goldmines dug in the general vicinity, but the area is definitely not devoid of mineral. Prospectors and gold seekers do not always strike lode gold in quartz outcropp...

The Fish Map

Chuck Ribaudo was already on Black Top when they arrived on the mountain. He had found a Spanish Mule shoe, and a mule shoe mark on the rock above his claim. It appeared they had used the shoe as a template, then tossed it on the ground. Ernie Provence found the shoe. Chucks location was based on th...

My, My, What an amazing responce. I used Chuck Lewing as a comparison to Ruth for importance in finding the LDM because I did not think many would know who he was. What I really expected to hear was, who the hell is Chuck Lewing? I should have known better. You guys cease to amaze me. Chucks contrib...

Best Evidence

Ron, You must have a Peralta-Fish Map I have never seen. Did I give you a copy of my uncles map? My memory is going fast. The only Sierra Anchas I know of, is the experimental forest north of Roosevelt Lake. That puts it north of the Rio Salado. Do you mean, other then that landmark, that the entire...

S.C., It took some doing, but I finally found your last posting. Since the Ruth/Peralta map leads to a specific place in the Superstitions, one which has resembled an ant hill of activity over the years, I have never placed any confidence in its authenticity. Ruth himself could not have found anythi...

S.C., This will be the second or third time I have tried to reply to your last post. My memory is not as good as it used to be, so the reply changes each time. Since I have never seen the Bicknell article, it is difficult for me to comment on something I know absolutely nothing about. Having said th...

Deerings/Soldiers Trail

Don, We have come a long way from the Deerings/Soldiers Trail. What we were discussing was somewhat abstract and not necessarily based in fact. Your assumption we were discussing Noah's Ark shows how easy it is to misinterpret a statement. Many, many legends and folklore have been prooved to be base...

It's amazing how the story surrounding Ruth has changed over the years. Subtle changes, but important to the truth of what happened. New evidence has turned up, many years after the event. When you consider the activity and interest at that time, it might make you question the bulk of this new infor...

The Dutchmans Gold

It is hard for us to relate to the people who were around in the Dutchmans time. They accomplished things we would not even attempt today. Think about crossing the country in a covered wagon. We get faint just thinking about driving that far. Waltz had nothing but time. Twenty-four hours a day, thre...

The Dutchmans Gold

Good job S.C. Only so many "she's" to choose from the Dutchmans time. I was a little suprised at the lack of serious reply to that quote. Why do you doubt the Dutchman got his gold from the massacre grounds? I believe he was at the site. A lot of evidence, which can be found by any reader ...

The Fish Map

Azmula, I don't think I said I was thru with the Stone Maps, only that I had completed my interpretations of them. It's possible that the clues on those maps are really spread out over the entire range. Find the triangle with the slash and you may find a mine directly in front of it. There is such a...

well sc is there a holy grail?funnily enough the holy grail could be compared with the lost dutchman in a kinda way. because the holy grail is many different things to many different people-so i guess yeah there is to some people dependin on what they visualize the holy grail as being.the holy grai...

I must admit I am somewhat suprised. Fourty-one views without a reply. It would appear that no one puts much credence in the Fish Map. In one since I am just a little pleased it garners no attention. On the other hand, It makes me wonder if it just does not fit with the conclusions you have all reac...

Dutchmans Gold

That quote comes from someone who was alive during the Dutchmans life and knew him by sight and the stories in circulation at the time. She made the statement as if it were a well known fact of the times. Takes us back to the possibility that the gold could have come from the massacre grounds and Wa...

Good point! Story has Deering following the directions left by the two soldiers. Since I don't believe the Deering LDM story at all, I am left with only the soldiers story. I have an idea of the location of the area they describe. I will eventually have to check it out. It is nowhere near the places...

Deerings/Soldiers Trail

Peter, I think you may have hit on the key to Deering's locating the LDM. Of course he found it while on vacation from the Silver King Mine. His paid vacation would have given him both the time and funds to make an extensive search. That is really more plausable then the story as it has been written...
