By the way Randy did make his return to the mountains recently and survived.
It was nice to have him back out there even though he was an hour late and had to jog to catch up!!!

Re: Kino's Gold the LDM?
Plenty of stuff that should have been erased is still there...........funny thing about accusing someone of making something vanish, is it never has to be there in the first place! Of course Storm went the other route and made things appear! Funny guys those Dutch Hunters they get you to watch the r...

Re: Kino's Gold the LDM?
Randy, Most folks perception of Gus Barkley comes from books on the LDM and those authors created a perception that isn't very realistic. Barkley came from a family that raised cattle and bred horses. He worked his way up to foreman for Andersons outfit and later established his own ranch which beca...

I doubt Kino would have made that climb and set a cross there. Probably just a good story.

Re: Travis Tumlinson
Everting I read has Travis being a bit reluctant to share. Robert wrote how Travis didn't want anyone to see the maps or the few pictures they had taken of them. Garman was being asked by Robert to write their story, but he was frustrated since 1) Travis never spoke with him much and 2) he never saw...

Re: Travis Tumlinson
I have copies of a number of letters between Bob Garman and Robert Tumlinson that say Travis found 1 map and returned with Robert to find the others at a later date. Most interesting to me was Roberts discussion that Travis made a number of alterations/additions to the maps so he would be the only o...

Re: Kino's Gold the LDM?
Some of Jones spikes and ropes were still up there when I was a kid and made the climb. Wouldn't trust them though.......
It depends on the route as to the climbs difficulty.

I believe it was Jones who was the source of the Kino story. Of course She saw people going in and out of doorways near the top of Weavers needle..........

Re: Travis Tumlinson
I believe there are a dozen alternate versions including his purchasing them. I remember a John Burbridge letter alluding to the seller having 2 additional maps and he was looking into contacting the guy. Bob Garmans letters between himself and Robert and Garmans interviews pinpoint the specific are...

I would hope that everyone is respectful of the families involved concerning the details of this situation and refrain at this time from posting any further information or speculation until the authorities have notified the families and released such information to the public.

Re: The John B. Kochera Story Revisited
I was hoping something would come out of this thread but it appears the story is in about the same place I left it some time back. Before you guys started though I was at Greg's and while rummaging through files I came upon an old black and white photo of a guy kneeling down under some boulders, shi...

Sorry I've been missing in action since the Rendezvous, but work has been even busier and I am still trying to catch my breathe. Re: 2010 Rendezvous
Randy was back out that evening with just a mild concussion but sent me a text earlier this afternoon and his left foot is big as a watermelon. Initial tests showed it wasn't broken, but it looked like hell.
Anyone got some bubble wrap that we can wrap him up in until the Rendezvous?

Re: 2010 Rendezvous
Just got in after cleaning up the Dons camp and clearing out the fire pit in the main ramada. Everythings in pretty good shape now, though we could use a bit of firewood for the main campfires on Friday and Saturday night. It was down to Randy, my son Trevor and myself(The others had a bad case of S...

Doc passed away around the mid eighties I think, so if you got no answers by then ask at the rendezvous. I would figure Doc was visited by more than a few folks that turn out every year.
