Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

THANK YOU WAYNE!

FINALLY, someone who reads full context rather than parsing single words and phrases.

CONTEXT, CONTEXT, CONTEXT!

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

There were at least three people that I know of that claimed they made the stones and sold them to Travis, they found the stones and sold them to Travis, or that one of their workers found the stones and he sold them to Travis. Not one of those stories was ever proven. Wayne, Honesty nor Integrity h...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

One last thing regarding Bob T's statement: Ask yourselves seriously, if Travis would have been "crazy to sell the stones" (meaning wanting badly to sell them), do you honestly think he would have had any problem doing so? It would have taken him maybe five minutes to find a buyer in AJ. A...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Beth, You are correct for the most part. In Bob Tumlinson's case, there was absolutely no possibility of there being a tie in between the two stories he told. One had him involved and one was Travis by himself. I firmly believe that Bob told the story involving himself in the find just to add some c...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Hey, I'm not even saying that he didn't make an attempt to sell the stones. What I am saying is the very same thing I have ALWAYS SAID: There is no documented evidence to support the claim that Travis ever tried to sell the stones or get investment capital from people for the purpose of treasure hun...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Okay, First, let's look at Bob Tumlinson: How much faith can we put in anything he says? He told Brower and Love different stories regarding the finding of the stones (one with just Travis and one including himself). Peck's investigators both concluded that Bob had been less than honest with them on...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

I am not "lumping" Travis with Crazy Jake. I am replying to the statement you made that there is no reason for Travis to have gone up into the hills to look for treasure - and sent his relative to do similar things. Your statement, Mike, was that is made O (zero) sense. My point is that -...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Beth,

Are you REALLY lumping Travis Tumlinson in with the likes of Crazy Jake? That might be a bit of a mistake there.

Cubfan,

Unless Janie or some other relative has a picture older, the pics from the Life Magazine Article of 1964 are the oldest.

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

I wonder if the possibility exists that one or more of the "stone maps" were truly discovered somewhere and that Travis only created one or two of the others for another purpose - be it to confuse/mislead other treasure hunters, amusement or other reason. If that were the case, what Jane ...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Mike, "If" seems like pure speculation to me. Question is; How do you know that each of your questions is factual history of what took place? How do you know that Travis never tried to sell the Stone Maps? There is some evidence that selling them was something he was contemplating. :? Tak...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

also, To continue with the Janie T track, she would not have any personal knowledge of anything to do with either the finding or carving of the stones in 1949. She was also so young that the only knowledge she would have is mostly from relatives. That also might be a good reason for her story to cha...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Joe, Another thing you have to keep in mind is that Janie wasn't even born in 1949. She would have been only a few years old at the time Travis was actively pursuing the stones. While I will leave it to the other person to post their findings, I will say that we now have a third version, and is some...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Hey Wayne, Maybe you're not reading this right. It has nothing to do with whether anybody believes the stone maps are authentic or not. The only thing here is that Travis Tumlinson's Daughter told Garry and Larry one thing a few years ago, and told me something completely different two months ago. I...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

oh, and about the "hoaxing" comment. I thought about that as well, but if he had carved them, not intending to hoax anybody, then why would he let his uncle take the stones and not tell him? We know Robert had possession of the stones for a time because of his landlord and treasure hunting...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Hey Garry, Same thing happened between Janie and myself. After some initial conversation, and my offering to assist her in any way I could with getting information for her book, she just clammed up. As far as my interview technique; I have been selling cars for the last 14 years or so. One of my gif...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Maybe in your eyes Garry's information is better because he has had several, personal interactions with Janie Tumlinson. That is not true. The ONLY thing that matters is that she told differing stories to both of us. Not just differing, but VASTLY differing. Now, Garry is like myself in that we both...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Joe, I'm not an idiot. If the book was what was important to you, then why did you have to do the whole "summing up" all the points? If the book was what was important to you, that should have been the first words off your fingertips. The throwing all of Garry's experience with Janie and t...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Joe, Questioning the evidence is what I expected from you previously. Actually, no I don't give any edge to Garry over me. MOST of the time, my assertions are backed up with evidence. SOMETIMES because of confidences my word has to do. In all my years of posting on the few forums I follow, I have ne...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Joe, I consider myself to be on equal with Garry when it comes to honesty and integrity. If he tells me something, I work on the assumption that what he told me was gospel. Someone would have to prove to me that Garry was being less than honest in any situation. It's funny that when Garry posts info...

If Janie had told me the same thing she told Garry, I would have gladly backed up his post with one of my own. I have always said that although I believe the stone maps to be authentic, I am not such a kool-aid drinker that I would ignore absolute evidence proving they were hoaxes. If hard evidence ...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Garry, In response to your quote from Elbert Love's Letter concerning Bob Tumlinson's statement that "Travis was crazy to sell the stones", I think you should reread the entire letter. First; Love states that Bob did not know Travis was dead. He only knew that Mitchell had bought the stone...
