no joe, i have not seen the book you mention...i have spent a decade or more attempting to find several of cs fly's locations in skeleton canyon area... curtis was a master of photography...his work does suffer from being staged..but he does capture the noble savage.. i believe that apache maiden is...

thanks for posting that pieceof map somehiker.. i attempted to address this topic once before... there was a house, wooden with a concrete foundation..at the junction of apache trail and the new road to firstwater...it had a well for water...the house and foundation are gone now...remains were there...

i do not have the ability to scan just now cubfan...i'll send you the mag. not a stock photo..i believe i have seen most of those... this pic is around 15 degrees off the banner for this site...shift to the right. on closer examination...the road may be a single power line...though no poles are evid...

i turned up an old copy of WILD WEST, June 1970. this issue has an article, APACHE'S GOLDEN LEDGE. by, Maurice Kildare. an amusing article...has the two soldier story line included... the part that interested me..was an old photo of the southern edge of the supers... it shows a road/trail..meanderin...

i also have leaned to the natural causes event in the death of adolf ruth... perhaps there was some backstabbing and going through pockets of the dead...but natural demise all the same. the point was, there were women..not just one..in the area that were hard cases, and more than capable of killing ...

no cubfan...that is not the point... what i am saying is after seventy some years of this guy did it..or that guy did it.... no new evidence has appeared...no ties to bind the murder to anyone... perhaps one should examine other avenues... we become so vested in our theory, we forget the simple answ...

i wish i had something factual... not one of the "ruth stories" holds water, imo... we avoided this topic once... i do believe there is only one person in a 60 mile radius... that could cause all these tough cowboy-miner types...to run around bragging about killing someone...beheading them...

lol..when i lived up there the tortilla factory was a open walled shed with the "cooker" out front...two 55 gallon drums..cut in half over an open flame... the ladies....big round happy types...would be standing there with raw tortillias on one arm...and toss them on the grill one at a tim...

oral histories are a wealth of information...if you sift it carefully...
i studied the fetterman affair long ago...as a sidenote to my native studies...
it appears many officers of that period must have been issued lead gobblets and canteens...

opinions... well...i find it curious that crook ran back to the fort...leaving a three pronged search and destroy mission underhanded...while he did inform custer by runner...too little too late... the rifles? ...it seems that the later version of this rifle did have a good reputation among it's use...

firearms were a factor...but the natives only had a few firearms...though most of them were repeaters, i sunderstand.. i have never fired a .51 so i have no clue as to how it handles...but...the national momument people have done several digs around the area...done forensics on the rounds found...an...
