Peters Mesa Pack Trip After 2008 Rendezvous
I have been working with OK Corral in Apache Junction to pre-plan a 4-day/3-night pack trip to Peters Mesa on the Monday following the 2008 Lost Dutchman Rendezvous. I am now contacting some of the LDM Forum members to see who might be interested in going. While on Peters Mesa, one day can be used t...

Jal Terrain
Joe, we are in general agreement on the distance to mountainous terrain from Jal. The 6034 ft peak you reference is WNW of Jal on the West side of Carlsbad, NM.

Map Showing NM and TX Mountains
Here's a weather radar map that has a topo relief view of NE New Mexico and Texas. Jal is located at the SE corner of NM and you can get a feel for how far it is from there to any mountains of any substance.

The Salazar Survey - Article by Clay Worst
Clay Worst wrote an article, "The Salazar Survey", dated 2/25/84 that appeared in Volume 4 (1980) of the Superstition Mountain Journal on pages 27 to 35. On page 27 of this article, Clay gives Salazar's first name as "Perfecto".

Glenn Magill and the Stone Maps
Garry, Think you are correct in the date error in Magill's letter dated Oct 27, 1965. Here's another tread in your Magill info that is even more interesting: In his letter to Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Mitchell (aka Travis Marlowe) dated Feb 12, 1970, Glenn writes: "However, I also believe from my...

Glen Magill Letters
Garry, Thanks for putting the Glenn Magill letters up on the web for others to be able to read. It is interesting when one can see these older and more inaccessible documents and then see some common threads with other more modern Dutch Hunters jump out of the pages. Here's an example that struck me...

Water Issues in Waltz's Mine
I might offer another explaination of Waltz having water runoff problems. If there was a "Cave" between the peaks that one had to go down to and then through to get to a lower ledge where the pit mine(s) were located, then Waltz might have been referring to him being in this cave when it r...

2007 Rendezvous
Joe, I and my buddy, Wendell, who came to the first Rendezvous, are planning on partaking of your Friday night stew and would like to have a go at your famous biscuits and gravy on Saturday morning if that would be OK. And if your grill has a little room on Saturday night, would like to add our two ...

Stone Maps @ Mesa Museum
Gary, as noted in my last posting, I PERSONALLY viewed the Stone Maps in the Mesa Museum in 1992. I did not move to Phoenix until 1990 and it was two years before I really got interested in the LDM and its lore. It could have been that the Flagg Foundation "owned" the stones and they were ...

Chuck Kenworthy Photo's of Stone Maps
I had posted in the Member Archive some time ago copies of photographs that Chuck Kenworthy had made of the Stone Maps. The photo's look like drawings but are actually Infra Red photographs that have been "dodged and bleached" to bring out the faintest of details in them. I have a handwrit...

Joe, I indicated that I would post what I thought was the location of the Priest of the Superstition from H.A. Bennett's booklet that I posted earlier. I accidently ran across that reference yesterday and thought I post it. Barney Barnard wrote his booklet, "The Story of Jacob Waltzer - Superst...

Passing of My Father
Thomas, I appreciate your kind thoughts on the loss of my Father. We had the funeral last Saturday and he is now next to my Mother who passed away in 2000. Thanks to everyone on the kind thoughts and well wishes. I suspect many of us are getting to an age that this is a more common happening with parents and relatives.
We should celebrate the life and not the passing of a loved one.

Joe, Ron Feldman did not mention his having any of Kochera's ore in his book or the Superstition Mtn Journal article. However, Thomas Glover in "The Lost Dutchman Mine of Jacob Waltz Part 1: The Golden Dream" (1998) wrote a chapter on analysis he had done of Arizona gold ore to see what ma...

Kochera's Gold
Joe, I first heard of Kochera's gold when I read Ron Feldman's book, "Zig Zag Canyon (1994), where he had a chapter on Kochera (pages 202 - 212). His book is called a "novel" but in my estimation it has a lot of hard fact in it. Here's the story line on John Kochera: John was a half b...

Kochera's Gold
I had the fortunate opportunity while visiting an acquaintance in Phoenix to be shown a piece of Kochera's gold ore. Dutch Hunters are well aware of tale by John Kochera of finding roughly 64 lbs of gold ore in a rotted leather bag under a bush in the Superstitions in the early 1960's. The location ...

Borrego 13 On A Mac Computer
Gene Reynold's book can be viewed on a Mac with no problem. Jpeg files are universal between PC's and Mac's. I have a G4 and it worked fine. You will find that each page of Gene's book is a scanned file and has to be opened one at a time. A word of caution - the file names have a page number in them...
