Re: Peralta Stone Maps - Clarence Mitchell Era to the Present

Garry, I went through various interviews and notes I have with Garman and came up with dates of 1953, 1954 and 1955. He did say each time that Travis had just finished his military obligation after the Korean war and was going from California to Texas and then to Oregon where he had a job as a guard...

Re: Peralta Stone Maps - Clarence Mitchell Era to the Present

The answer could be in the version Bob Garman told which is as follows: He met Robert Tumlinson in Randolph canyon in 1955. Tumlinson was with 2 other guys and told Garman and his companion that they had some spanish treasure maps. Garman told Tumlinson he could stop by his house and Garman would se...

Re: Yellow Jackets

Around noon I needed to find a bathroom and stopped at this little hole in the wall bookstore in a strip mall, which looked like the only promising spot around. On my way through the shop back to my truck I saw a copy of Corbins "Dutchmans Gold" and remembered how mine was in pretty bad sh...

Roger,

Other than the "Don" side, how weathered and worn did the maps appear to you?

Re: Peralta Stone Maps - Clarence Mitchell Era to the Present

Two different guys....... Raincheck is fine with me. I don't think of it as fair and balanced, just my approach is different. I look at it as what would validate it and how to go about it. Kind of like in the whole Julia Thomas thing: its not where she is buried but where she is actually buried. I l...

Re: Yellow Jackets

Randy and I will eventually need a couple of strong, enthusiastic hikers to haul our gear around and I figure I might as well groom them right out of my house.

Re: Peralta Stone Maps - Clarence Mitchell Era to the Present

Having actually seen the maps up as close as I could of hoped to and with a few hundred pictures at every angle possible to review, I got more questions concerning their authenticity than ever before. When I was looking to back up a certain story about a large boulder that the Apaches had supposedly...

Re: Peralta Stone Maps - Clarence Mitchell Era to the Present

Glad that someone else has gone through the Peck file. I have been through it several times and always am impressed with Richard Pecks attitude on throwing money at the problem. Between that and other letters scattered thorough Gregs collection you find a lot of references to the additional maps. Th...

Re: More lost hikers

Long time, no hear from ya Brad. I was out talking to the Sheriff's department the other day and they are perplexed at 3 guys vanishing like that. The choppers were going in and out at 10 minute intervals and I have to admit I never expected to hear any good news while I was there. The primary areas...

Re: The Stone Maps

Phil Reinhardt will be on channel 12 sometime during their morning program starting at 7am on Wednesday July 14th. A friend called from the station about the missing hikers and told me Phil was doing a bit about the Peralta Stones in a segment. Will see if he can get me a video of the segment I can ...

More lost hikers

3 more guys are lost in the Superstitions this weekend. One of them was a guy who got lost and needed rescued last year...... Az central has the story and channel 10 had Marshall Trimble do a nice LDM piece. Channel 3 had quotes from Jim Hatt. I think that makes 5 this year that made the news. Two w...

Re: The Stone Maps

Nah it's an arrow to point, but it could be someone scratched it in at an unknown date in the last 30-49 years. It's real faint and isn't in any other pictures I have seen. If you change the contrast it stays similar to the heart, sonora mex and the symbol just below and to the left of the heart. My...

Re: The Stone Maps

One other thing I thought was a bit odd and funny was the arrow through the faintly scratched heart to the word "COAZON". Don't remember anyone mentioning it before.

Re: The Stone Maps

Another sad note is the "DON" inscription is pretty much gone. Of the pictures I have from every angle and lighting I used it is unreadable. I figure it was stored or displayed always with the inscription rubbing against something and has worn to nothing but a mere shading in spots. At one...

Re: The Stone Maps

Okay guys, I now have my 300 or so up close and personal pics of the stone maps and while I had a great time around everyone who showed up, I still don't get it. But I do have questions and couldn't really find the answers elsewhere so hopefully all of you will wake up for a bit to clear up a few th...

Re: Yellow Jackets

Been a while since I was messing stuff up around here! Thats Trevor eating popcorn at Dick Holmes burial site at Greenwood. Peter joked that he was buying lunch and claimed the popcorn and punch counted as lunch. The other pics are of Marshall Trimble and Trevor and Greg, Peter and Trevor checking o...

Re: Yellow Jackets

Don't think a week goes by where I don't speak with either Randy or Greg, just it was tough fitting in any computer time after working 2 shifts! Had to fit in 3 months of baseball too! Now that I am down to one shift and the tournament is over I got too much free time! Thats Trevor above with the Bu...

Re: Yellow Jackets

Nice find!!! As all can tell I am finally on my summer break and avoided 4 months in Yuma to sit by the pool and give my feet a well deserved rest. Had a nice trip on Memorial day to the Pioneers cemetery with Greg, my son Trevor and good friend Peter. Was hoping Kraig would pop in, but he didn't. T...

Re: Another Dutch Hunter Crosses Over

I was quite sad to see while catching up here on the forum that Gene had passed away. Always a Gentleman and very kind to me, I wish I would have had a chance or three to get to know him better. All I have now are a few phone conversations, a few notes we exchanged and my copies of Borrego 13. He wi...

Re: Purnell and Keenan….what ever happened to them?

The Antigua name has puzzled me for years. I figured it had to do with a previous claim in the area, but still have come up short. It is an interesting area. Randy found a huge rock filled with crystals on the cliffs above the pit. Hopefully when he gets a moment he will post a picture of it. We als...
