Re: Massacure
Hello Oroblanco, That didn’t seem off-topic at all and it is great to see people that are very learned on the subject share their knowledge. I had read that the Jesuits had some business dealings, but did not realize it went so deep, especially in Japan. Kino, the Jesuits, China, and mining in the S...

Re: Massacure
Hello Jim, As Graham Green said in the movie “Wind River”, “This thing is solving itself!”. Let me share a few things about Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino, one of the more famous Jesuits. Kino dearly wanted to be missionary in China, but he was given a mission on the California peninsula instead, afte...

Re: Massacure
Hi Jim, I think you just set the stove to “high”! The Jesuits weren’t even on my radar screen, but by just mentioning them, you have discovered the mortar that welds this whole thing together. In a very short time, it was learned that the founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) died in China! By 1...

Re: Massacure
Hello Jim, Thanks for the reply and information. From what I’ve read, the Manila-Acapulco-Manila Galleon system was as corrupt as you could get, and corruption is what probably caused its demise. After 250 years, it made a lot of unsavory people incredibly wealthy. If a lot of gold from the Supersti...

Re: Massacure
I hope someone finds this intriguing at least, because no one is posting. Bringing the Chinese into the picture ties up a big loose end: where did the Peralta’s get their mercury? In the thread here, “The Peraltas and Mercury” it was documented that a great amount of mercury can be found in the soil...

Re: Massacure
Sorry, one more important thing........... the ratio of silver to gold in Spain was 12:1. The ratio of silver to gold in China was 6:1. The Spanish made an incredible profit in the carry-back trade. If the silver to gold ratio is a rough indication of the quantity of each that was produced, why did ...

Re: Massacure
Hello Thomas, Because of the difficulties of finding first-hand evidence of the Spaniards or Mexicans mining in the Superstitions, it seems that there needs to be a completely different, outside the box method for finding more evidence. Your research regarding the Peralta family and their mining the...

Hello Mike, It is great that there are a few posts again here. Your thoughts about ore in the SWA are well respected, and please consider this: Below is a map of the mineral potential of the Superstitions and surrounding area that was completed by the US Bureau of Mines and the US Geological Survey ...

Re: Massacure
don, Of all the scant "evidence" out there regarding the LDM, Bicknell's 1895 article tells us a lot. I'm not a great researcher like some of you are, but through my readings, it was learned that an author's reputation in the 19th century meant much more than it does today. Bicknell wrote ...

Re: Massacure
don, An age-old riddle was resurrected and modified to explain the LDM conundrum: Three prospectors had been exploring in the Superstitions for over a week, and they dearly wanted a hot bath. They piled in and old truck and drove into Phoenix to find a room to rent so they could get cleaned up. The ...

A new website
Hello all, It has taken me longer than I thought it would, but I made a new website incorporating both the geology and and some of the things that I posted here in the past. There are some new things also, and for some of them, you have to go all the way down to the end of the rabbit hole. It is cel...

Re: The Great Mine
There have been some more learnings and conclusions gained regarding Cerro Negra and the “Great Mine” and thought it worth a post. To start, below is a photo of the cave zone next to the saddle area. In the background can be seen El Sombrero at the bearing of S65E. It appears like the rock over the ...

don,
You seem to forget that Dr. Glover found the descendants and the genealogy to back it up. His contribution is the best since Sims Ely pulled all of the stories together and found the logged-off area. I have a good? post cooking, but am short of time this evening.

Below is a good copy of the Bicknell article and a link, and below that is the top of the newspaper page that the 1895 article was on and a link. http://mollymarieprospect.com/greatmine/bicknellart.jpg http://mollymarieprospect.com/greatm...

Re: The Great Mine
Hello Jim, The only resources that I know of for finding the historic claim owners are the BLM's LR2000 and the site called the "Diggings" which must be based off of the LR2000. They both show the patented claims from the 1890's, but they show the unpatented claims only from the 1970's for...

Re: What would you do? Just curious!
2016Producer: You, don, and Cubfan paint a pretty grim picture with few options. Throughout history, the prospectors that have made the great discoveries have most often gotten screwed. Keeping that in mind, the discoverer should be particularly alert for those that are experts at acquiring properti...

Re: The Great Mine
Below is a diagram of the old top-slicing mining method. If this is indeed a cave zone shown above, this is how they did it. This takes quite a bit of timber, and the Peralta's did not have much nearby. This must have been the number one limitation regarding the amount of tons they could mine from u...

Hello Jim, Thank you very much and am glad you have an interest in this. If this pans out, just about everyone that has ever posted on this forum has had a part in this to some degree. The first time I ever stepped foot in the “cave zone” was about 12 years ago. It was late in the afternoon after th...

Hello Klondike, Thank you again for your interest and your thoughts about geology. You know your mines; Midas is a great one. The Great Mine
My greatest challenge during my search has been coming to grips with just how big the mining operations actually were. The cart ruts told of countless loads of ore going to First Water Canyon, but it didn’t completely “sink in”. Over the past month, I’ve been poring over Cerro Negra, trying to gain ...
