Drift Mine on Lynx Creek

Here is another location I was wondering about. This is a hard-rock mine that followed a clay-filled crack in the solid rock mountain. Location 34 29 11N/112 21 55W. It's at the base of the mountain on the east side of Lynx Creek just south of Bannie Mine Rd. Here is a picture of the main shaft... h...

Re: On the trail of Jack Swilling

http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah9/J0s1E/IMAG0338_zpscb31344d.jpg Some of the walls have fallen down. Anyway, does anyone know what this structure is, or have any history on it? It's not far from the old stage route, Gillett, and on the road to top-top mine. Jack Swilling lived here and was ar...

On top of the mesa. The rock wall circles the entire top of the mesa, except for a small gap where you can climb up.

Re: On the trail of Jack Swilling

Holy smokes, I finally got it. OK, the pic above is in reference to the fort-like formation on a mesa about 1km west of the ghost town of Gillett. We are standing on the east side, looking up west. You can see the stacked stone wall on top of the mesa. There is only one way in.... http://i1376.photo...

On the trail of Jack Swilling

All, I've been chasing down info on Jack Swilling, and made a trip to Gillett just to reconnect with the place. Unfortunately, there's not much left. The last time I'd been there was about 1982. I think it's on private property now, maybe it always has been, but it's about to vanish. Much has change...

Say it Ain't So!

Hello everyone, Just wanted to say that this forum has given me a connection to my home over the years that was desperately needed during military deployments and the other life events that keep me away from AZ. I haven't posted much as I don't really have any expertise to add, but I have tried to k...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Hi Oroblanco, Sorry you got claim-jumped, Brother. I can only imagine how frustrating that would be to see someone working your claim after they stole it. Hope they savor the taste of that big bite of bad karma samwich! Well I sure got off on a rant. I guess I believe in the possibility there is a L...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Sorry, would like to revise and extend my remarks... "... was thinking about the George Holmes discovery..." I meant Roberts, not Holmes. And my theoretical scenario on saloon conversations...I should have said "insert any claims commonly attributed to Petrash or Holmes here&qu...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Hi Mike, You’re right about the CA placering/hydraulicking. Wasn’t thinking about that, was thinking about the George Holmes discovery of a vein while out “cutting timber”, and the story that Waltz was “sent for” or somehow involved in the mining of it prior to hitting the water table. I may be wron...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Howdy, new guy to the forum here. Grew up in AZ and still spend alot of time there prospecting, have property there, etc. Learned about the Dutchman from Grandad. I personally have doubts about Jacob Waltz having a mine in the Supes, and its something I always come back to when I start thinking the ...

Re: Lost Peraltas Mine and diggings

Howdy, Sounds like the area you are describing is at the eastern end of Horse Mesa. There's a mountain on the north side of the Apache Trail that might be what you're looking for. I've done my share of sliding around and falling down in that area. I misspent my youth up there and over in the McDowel...
