DED

The Russians were only defending themselves during the cold war (with Stalin at the helm) ???? I think there are a couple million dead Russians who would disagree with you if they were alive today. But they can't because the one time they tried to voice their opinions openly (as we are right now) th...

Think Simple

Although we digress far from the intent of the forum this is a pertinent subject. It is the basis for us having the liberty to do as we wish with our time as idividuals under god. The Constitution of the United States of America grants us the ability to do what we want, when we want, and how we want...

This is the reference: Life Magizne, June 12, 1964, Article Title "Mysterious Maps to Lost Gold Mines" I had a chance to read it a few times. Wonderful "Life" type story with pictures. It was a "These guys are close and here's why" kind of story. Just enough to get a Du...

Picture of "Maps"

Having had a chance to examine (and even hold) the Stone Maps I felt compelled to take a closer look at some of the pictures which have been published once I returned home. One picture in particular seems to be the most interesting. It is the photograph of the stones on the bumper of a car. This pho...

Just a student

Joe and Tracy, Sorry I didn't respond sooner but I had to travel for work and was out of town for awhile. In response to your query, I have no additional information to add to the massacre story. I have no team, am a member of a team, or even a specific area of interest in the mountains. I do look o...

Gold Bars

Thinking a little further on this, Bob Ward told a story of Gold Bars being found in a cave and I thought there was a discussion about the story on this forum. There is. Joe started an excellent discussion last year under the topic "Cave with Gold Bars." Apparently pictures were taken of t...

Arrastas and "The Massacre"

According to Mathew Roberts' account spelled out in Helen Corbin's " The Bible" Edwards backtracked to the work camp where he discovered a crude arrasta which was used to break up the ore for the trip back to Mexico. He describes "A large pole, fifteeen feet high, had been broken off ...

One of the problems I can't seem to get past on the subject of the massacre(s) is the origination point. Common belief is that the battle originated in the interior and proceeded towards western slope. This belief is based on William Edwards account of the trail of skeletons and his subsequent disco...

The Crow

I would like to us the "what would I do method" of deduction for this quandry. From the obvious when simply looking at a map I would walk to the south of the mastif if I were the two soldiers in question. The point of crossing the Salt, weather the flat or somewhere nearer to the fort is i...

OK

So either:

1) Tom's funnin' with us
or
2) Bark was twisting the truth a little

Other than the Bark Notes what convinces you that Tom is pulling a Picknell?

Kollenborn's Chronicles

Did anyone get a chance to read Tom's latest article "The Story of Joe Deering, Part I"? In his article he states that a prospector (no name given) approached Bark and Chuning and told them both the tale of Joe Deering. A definite twist on the "traditional" story.

Fort Badger

Is anyone familiar with "Fort Badger"? I have found no reference to this fort other than "Fort McDowell" was eroneously referred to as Fort Badger at one time. The reason I ask is that I was told by a "Old Timer" that the two soldiers actually were discharged from Fort ...

Any of the possible escape routes from Marsh Valley, which ended at the Massacre Grounds, would have been deadly. I would have to agree that O’Grady seems more appropriate in the comfort of my chair with a topo spread before me. A good search of the area could prove interesting. The real drift of my...

Weeke's Wash and the Mexican Miners

One thing that “sticks in my craw” is the relationship between the Weeke’s wash mines and the Peralta miners. It seems to be accepted by most Dutch Hunters, me included, that the slaughter of Mexican miners did occur in the vicinity of the modern day massacre grounds. The evidence also points to a r...

Scott, I can only give you this advise on your "filled mine." Go there in time and place. Look at what you see at the site. How would you cover it? What tools would you have at the time you think it was filled? What type of mine is it? Why would you bother to cover it?? Answer these questi...

The amazing "Forest Service"

This organization (no pun intended) never ceases to amaze me. As many of you know, last year the "forest service" plowed many of the old jeep trails and prospects near first water. This of course was after they fenced the entire region in so that the only access was through the pay station...

Could this be possible

Here's another angle on the massacre. These are just my "thinking out of the box" thoughts. Could it be that the massacre actually started across Apache trail at one or more of the mines around Youngsberg (Goldfield)? It's my understanding that the Goldfield miners broke into old shafts on...
