It took 3 heinikens and twice that many cigarettes to come to that time frame. I am open to the idea, after meeting the principle characters it might be not one of them had a clue. I figure it was the one point in time that we all know where Waltz, Julia, Petrasch and Holmes were. I figure after re ...

Thanks Joe, absent from posting but still reading regularly. Seems like I spend most of my free time cleaning mud off the truck undercarriage. Never thought I would be wishing for it to stop raining. This topic was too fun to pass by. Thought of kidnapping Waltz the night of the shooting by his adob...

I would go back the afternoon prior to Waltzs death. I would hang with Petrasch, steal his notes and drawings before he lost them, get him drunk( thats the easy part of this plan), extract a little info, grab a dancing girl afterwards, have a little fun. Early in the morning I would follow Holmes an...

Double Take

this is somewhat related to this board and this is probably the only place on earth that someone might know. Does anyone know anything about a record put out in 1984 by 2 guys who called themselves double take? Found it while rummaging through some stuff today. It was a contest of some sorts with fi...

Welcome and I guess you have the summer to lounge in the pool and wait for fall. Lots of time to get all kinds of crazy things in your head. Come Monsoon though you will love the view as the storms come through that particular area.

A few things were mentioned I would like to comment on. One, Dr Thomas made a good point about being reluctant to go public with recollections about the story. I have known a few pioneers that never mentioned the story and I know that they had to know a few of the principals involved. Even here on t...

Yeah but really the wheat from chaffe would read like this: There was a Guy named Jacob Waltz who lived for a time in Phoenix. He had a Friend Named Julia Thomas. He Died. People said he had a mine after he had already died. I never understand the whole camp thing. Theres people who take the same si...

Propably closer to it then you think. I dread the day when my son asks me to tell the story about the lost dutchman mine. Gee you think he's gonna need therapy when I tell him what I know. I liken it to translating a book through several languages and back to english. Aint gonna make sense in time. ...

The only reference I found for the sun shining bit was in Killer Mountains and it was unattributed. Magill seemed to follow Ely and Storms books exclusively. I found itas one of several clues in a couple of pamphlet things I got when I was a kid. One was from the miners camp restaurant and the other...

I have the same problem Joe. Frank Alkires quotes used by Glover are radically different then earlier ones concerning Waltzs death. Alkire says during other interviews that the whole powder incident happened at Julias house in her living room after Waltz was rescued. No one was allowed to see Waltz ...

I figured the shadow clue always meant the back side of the needle in an easterly direction. I felt it was not supposed to be in the literal sense, it just got twisted that way over time. Same with the sun shining on the gold statement. It seems to get attributed to Waltz in his discussions with Rhe...

It just bothered me that it was from the paper and I am sure it had the usual blurb on who was who in the pic. This is why I never got into the stone maps too much. If stuff like this bothers me,then I figure I would never sleep again after getting into that mess. Seemed snakier than usual. It was p...

I never listen to the restoration stuff too closely. Though it did look like they did something around the Magill site. A few years back I asked about a certain spot that I remembered from the seventies and was told the shaft was filled and the area restored to pristine conditions. When I got there ...

I just like hitting those spots that I read about. I still got my 1969 5th printing hardcopy of "Killer Mountains". I think it was my first Dutchman book back when I was a kid. Someone sent me the directions to the Magill prospect from this discussion board( I forget who, but thanks again)...

Baker Looney

In Tom Kollenborns "Ride through time"(p.94) there is a photo of Ed Piper with 2 guys. One is identified as Baker Looney. Baker Looney was Magills employee though and Piper had passed away before Magill stepped foot in the mountains. Is it a typo or just misinformation?

Am I the only person who has a problem with putting the map in the same perspective as Magill did? It seems the map points to different places according to the way you view it. I always figure it was drawn as a recollection of the area and not necessarily as from the perspective as some would think....

Holmes Manuscript

It has been awhile since I posted. I guess I became one of those guys who just watches the discussions and keeps his own counsel for a bit. A short while back as I was taking a break in the Weaver mountain area around Walnut Grove I was re-reading some books I had brought along to kill time. The boo...
