Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

Joe, You wrote: While there are many books on the subject, I have a number myself, I would like to see an official "Spanish" document enumerating those symbols. Better yet, I would like to see one "authenticated" Spanish map with those symbols. Until that happens, I will consider...

Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

I apologize for interrupting the conversation in this thread, and I know I’m about a month behind but I wanted to thank Azmula and Mike for providing a foothold for Spanish Treasure symbols. For a start, I did order Kenworthy’s book “Treasure Signs, Symbols, Shawdow and Sun Signs”. (I saw one priced...

Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

I want to thank Joe, Wayne and the individual who sent me a private message responding to my question; Exactly what is it on the stone maps that shouts, the Jesuits were involved with these stones? I was looking for an obvious symbol(s) or tie on the stones but it appears the Jesuit theories are muc...

Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

Guys, (Wayne, Mike, Azmula and maybe even Joe) Hopefully this question is not too far off topic. I believe everyone, at one time or another, has tied the Stone Maps to the Jesuits. Exactly what is it on the stone maps that shouts, the Jesuits were involved with these stones. I do see the large stone...

Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

Mike, Thanks for laying out your argument and including sources for your reasoning. Travis carving the H/P stone addresses a lot of other questions. The misspelled Spanish words, the block lettering, the similarity of other Travis Stone carvings, etc. The trail maps do not have these types of featur...

Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

Wayne, I aplogize for running so far behind the curve here! :) In your posts of March 1st you have done some excellent analysis and have offered some thoughtful questions. You have broken down the published e-mails, which in reality are what is really new in the article. I have been on a different r...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Azmula, You wrote; “The one thing we do know is that there is another stone map (#4) still in Texas.” This map (#4) is not mentioned in the three e-mails you included and I assume that this map was mentioned in one or more of your unpublished e-mails? Do you know if the map (#4) mentioned is the so-...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Azmula, I am still digesting parts of your article and it’s great to have something offered, other than more speculation. The e-mails are a treasure. I have never written an article for publication in a historical journal and I can only guess how difficult that must be. I have been working on the Tu...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Shelby, Nice job of laying out your argument for the possibility of Bob Ward's involvement. I know Joe's argument well that the creator of the stone maps was well aquainted with the Superstitions. [Heart Stone, Omega Stone, Manganese deposit, two monuments, Chuck Aylor's Image, Chucks Quotes from Sh...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Paul, You’re way ahead of me and I suspect you are generally headed in the right direction. If we knew where the story was going there wouldn’t be much point in Part 2. :) My focus is the e-mails and the new information, where the family states that Travis carved the maps in Cuero. (I had assumed Wi...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

It’s been awhile since anyone posted anything regarding Travis Tumlinson’s involvement with the Stone Maps and I personally put things on hold until the article by Azmula was published in the SMJ. I wanted to see what additional documentation might be forthcoming before proceeding. Azmula’s Part 1 a...

Superstition Mountain Journal CDs - Volumes 1-20

I just ordered the two new CDs that contain the SMJ Pubications from 1981 through 2002 from the Superstition Mountain Museum. They will make a great research tool and I couldn't be more pleased. I want to thank Thomas Glover and Paul Shemik for taking on this project and I know it took a LOT of time...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

This cropped photo was sent to me by Joe Ribaudo and its source is a CD that Joe got from Steve Decker of the Mining Museum Foundation. The photo caused me to question my slanted letter analysis. The tilt of the D doesn’t appear nearly as pronounced as my table image. Different Stone? http://i...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

SH,

I assume you are questioning whether the Treasure Chest Stone is different than the Galleon Stone?

Nope, it is the same stone, just a different side.

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

I've already had an error pointed out and I suspect more will be found. So much for my slanted letter analysis!

I'll probably wait awhile until more corrections come in and then do a Revison A.

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

I have finally gotten around to preparing a comparison between the upper case lettering on the Treasure Chest Stone that Travis carved and the lettering on the Horse/Witch Stone. This exercise has a very narrow focus in that it is only intended to address the possible Travis Tumlinson involvement wi...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Guys,

I received a private e-mail and it seem most of my questions regarding the Latin Heart were addressed on DesertUSA. [Topic - THE LATIN HEART]. To access the topic you must have a password.

I wasn't paying attention!

Lots of stuff to digest.

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Has anyone ever seen where the provenance of the Latin Heart was addressed? Who was the person that allegedly discovered the Latin Heart? When and how did they find it? Who allegedly destroyed the Latin Heart? Who claimed to have seen a stone carving of the Latin Heart? Why are we to believe there w...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Joe, I assume since you posted the photo you were at least prepared to fend off questions. :) It is obviously related to the trail maps and the 50 years ago (about 1961) is interesting. Is there any additional information you can share regarding the provenance? Does your friend know the identity of ...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

I mentioned earlier in the thread that Joe showed us some artifacts that he believed Travis carved. He wasn’t adamant about that and thought there might be a possibility that at least some of the items were artifacts that had been found. We know from a Hainer letter that Travis was an avid arrowhead...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Wayne, I doubt that anyone knows when this stone was carved. Maybe as we review the timeline for Travis, someone might make a better guess but right now I think it would all be speculations. I think I suggested it was possibily done before the Stone Maps but for me, like most of us, speculation prov...

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Before I move on to some other areas, I am going to go ahead and post the portion of the opposite side of the galleon stone that shows the treasure chest. (I still want to use some of the other words below the chest to do a letter by letter comparison with the stone maps lettering.) :) Travis had mo...
