Deerings/Soldiers Trail

I have edited my previous post. I meant to say Bluff Spring Mountain is not an option for the mine location described in the two stories. I agree that the two soldiers story is based in historical fact. Joe Deering however is another matter altogether. He obviously worked and died as stated. I belie...

Deerings/Soldiers Trail

Bluff Spring is located in Bluff Spring Canyon. Bluff Spring Mountain is not an option for the mine location described in these two stories.

Deerings/Soldiers Trail

Thanks S.C. I reread that story last night and realized it only mentioned Bluff Spring. It's hell to get old. Seems like that points to a specific direction if you use Weavers Needle as a dividing line. You would have to make an assumption he was not running from his pursuers when he was killed. Now...

Deerings/Soldiers Trail

Another question that comes to mind. Bluff Spring Mt. is pretty big. Near Bluff Spring Mt. covers a large piece of ground. Why so vague? It would be nice to know if the body was discovered on the East side, West side, North or South and what is close? Some might consider five miles to be close. Sinc...

Deerings/Soldiers Trail

Peter quotes Al as having said the area of the mine itself is so rough that it could not be reached by animals. I assume he meant pack animals. I was working my way around the south side of Weavers Needle, part way up the side. The ledge I was traversing was only a couple of inches wide. Another two...

THE FISH MAP

As we all examine the clues on the ground, and the maps that seem to keep popping up all the time, we should keep in mind that the seemingly most plausable and reliable pieces of evidence, may have been changed by other hunters. The Frank Fish map is a good example. Tom Glover states he received Lin...

Best Evidence

The question goes unanswered. So I will try again. What do you consider the best and most reliable piece of evidence concerning the LDM? If it's a map or story, we all have the information already. If it's a clue or monument you have seen yourself, without disclosing it's location, you might be able...

Dale Howard

Dale told me the following story: Prior to WW2, Dale and a friend were prospecting the area of Black Top Mountain. They were working there way around the South end about half way up the mountain. Dale lost his footing and grabbed a large boulder. The boulder moved away from the mountain and he fell ...

Deering/Soldiers Trail

The Joe Deering story has always bothered me. "Half way up the side of the mountain.....he came across an old trail, a very old trail worn deeper into the rock than any other trail he had seen in that country". WORN INTO THE ROCK! "He followed it for probably six or seven miles"....

But neck hairs aside, I have to think that your monument didn't impress you very much or you would have gone back by now.
I went to the end of that particular map. It lead me to a large Manganese deposit.

Say, Joe. Are these maps you have figured out the Stone Maps? Thx. Peter, I have already stated that I solved the Stone Maps many years ago. Other maps might have more legitimacy. Is the LDM shown on the Stone Maps? You might consider that I could have information or possibly a map, which is not av...

Dutchmans Gold/Massacre Grounds

Joe You are absolutely wrong in your last assertion. There was and is physical evidence...which still exists to this day. And Glover's information in his book was not very far from the truth..btw. P Peter, I could be wrong of course. Maybe I should have said, I have never seen any physical evidence...

Ruth Killing

If we could see the other side of Ruths skull and did not find an entry wound, it would not mean the exit wound is not caused by being shot in the head. There are many places for a bullit to enter the head without leaving damage to the skull.

As I stated, the Stone Maps stopped being a mystery for me a long time ago. Many maps bolster the clues and locations on the Stone Maps. Many stories do the same thing. That does not mean that the Stone Maps are authentic, but do mean, if they are not authentic, that the author was well versed in th...

Ruth Killing

I have my doubts concerning any mountain lion dragging a full grown man a few miles. If you consider the terrain, it's more likely that Ruth could have walked that far then be dragged, and that's close to impossible. Normally wild animals will only move the body enough to get to all the parts. Other...

What is your favorite piece of evidence, or clue? Do you consider it fairly reliable? If it is something that has not been in print, can you tell us what it is without disclosing it's location? I won't blink on this one. Twenty-five years ago, my Uncle Chuck, my Brother Phil and myself, backpacked i...

Great topic guys! Hard to give any credence to the Holmes Manuscript, at least it is for me. since it is presented as fact by Glover, it places the information in his first book in question. Has anyone seen the various notes and manuscripts offered as sources for these stories? Have they been authin...

Dutchmans Gold/Massacre Grounds

Not one piece of physical evedence still holds true. Glovers story is just that, a story. Just because he writes it does not make it fact. These stories are what makes it so difficult to find the Lost Dutchman Mine. Stories are not physical evedence.
That leads to my next posted question.

Dutchman's Gold/Massacre Grounds

In all these years, not one piece of phiscal evidence, has been brought forward establishing the truth of a massacre at that spot. That does not mean it did not happen. There is a tremendous amount of legend which also can not be disproved. It makes sense to me that, if a massacre of the Peraltas to...

How many conclusions have shown up for the Stone Maps, The Ruth Maps, Wagner, Wieser, Gonzales,Fish, Etc. How many Caves with gold bars, solid gold sunburst, gold priest, silver bars and viens of almost solid gold? Didn't mean to leave out a particular placer mine as well. How many clues, monuments,...

Wiz properly points out my soft? approach and heavy handed opinion. Most hunters are not going to give any clues as to the conclusions they have reached, unless they are re-stating commonly known statements by others. Since most Dutch Hunters are slightly obssesed by the subject, they read every boo...

Ruth Death

It's always interesting that we follow second, third and worse, stories as if they were real evidence of what happened. Because we have nothing of substance we tend to make a simple solution into a maze. I agree Ruth did not walk out of West Boulder Canyon. It seems his own physical condition is rea...

Anyone ever consider that Waltz might have found the massacre site, recovered the gold on the ground, then hid it in the mountains? That might explaine the oft quoted, " If you find the mine, you will find the cache". He could have easily missed the gold that was found at the site latter. ...

Any opinions out there as to where Ruth was killed? Besides Black Top!
Did he find the mine? If so, did the men who killed him also locate the mine? I think he had information, not written, but necessary to locate the Dutchmans Mine and that it died with him.....Or did it?
