Re: Consider this

How can anyone believe the story of how travis found the maps ?
Read Mitchells account and you will see the humor in it.

Consider this

Has anyone considered the possibility that the Tumlinson family are just now admitting that travis carved the stones in order to make a legitamite claim to anthing that may be recovered in the future as a result of the information on the tablets ? 8O The evidence for travis having carved any of thes...

Re: The Stone Maps

Mike First, according to Glover, Travis did not give the stones to Robert, Robert took them to prevent them from becoming damaged. Also, it has been my experience that the last people you should trust are relatives. If Travis faked some of the markings on the tablet, what is there to prevent him fro...

Re: The Stone Maps

Sorry Alan, But that story is what Travis told to his uncle Robert in 1949. Travis even drew Robert a map showing exactly where he found them. It is also the same story Travis told to his friends that knew about the stones when he had them. Believe what you want, but you should base your beliefs on...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Alan, He was also the man that Chuck Kenworthy claimed he had hired to search those same archives, looking for and finding the "King's Code". Most of the information that Chuck found on that document was used in his book, "Treasure Signs, Symbols, Shadow and Sun Signs". Trouble ...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Joe Thank-you for the links I found one of them very informative, the other two are no longer accessable. I have read Kenworthy's books as well as Penfield's, Storms, Sheffield, and can find fault in all of them concerning interpretations of treasure signs and symbols. The bottom line is, until a tr...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Roy You are right in that most hunters see what they want to see, the Treasure Net site has a lot of treasure sign photos posted, more than half of them are just small odd shaped rocks. I do not think that anyone would make a marker on a rock small enough to be thrown. To date I have found four man ...

"As one historian has stated, folklore is not history.34" one did not need to go north to find apache outside tucson... one only had to live on the outskirts of tucson to find apache. any further attempt to be a historian{ for me} is futile. Folklore is indeed history when there is no oth...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

The horse was also the symbol used by the Spanish to designate a secure camp where one could refresh their horses.
It came into use sometime arounf 1800 as a result of the stratigy implimented by General Hugh O'Connor which succesfully contained the Apache untill 1811.

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Has anyone here ever walked to the site where this gentleman claims the mine to be? Sounds like it could be done in a day. If you would like to go see, from Tortilla Flat, hike to Peters Canyon up Tortilla Wash. Take Peters Canyon to the site, about 4 hours one way. This is a moderate to extreme hi...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

I would also ask is it still the LDM if it is not in the Superstitions? In the early years when the LDM stories first started spreading there was just as much belief it was in Goldfield or Four Peaks as in the Supers. If one of those was the real location it is very likely the mine was found and wo...

Re: Bumble Bee lost treasure

You need to locate an old topo map of the area from the time period of interest. Creeks have a habit of changing course over the years due to seasonal flashflooding. I suspect that your topo is 1972 or maybe 68 vintage. A good book to check out for mining info on Bisbee is "1000 old mines of ar...
