Re: USGS Circular# 609 "Mercury in Soil Gas and Air ~~~~~"
Cubfan wrote This statement is a reasonably good summary of why I'm leary of drawing too many conclusions from the USGS circular 609 report. Not saying it might not indicate precious metal deposits in the Superstitions, just that it doesn't present enough information to prove it to me is all. That m...

Re: USGS Circular# 609 "Mercury in Soil Gas and Air ~~~~~"
Mike, assuming you were not kidding about how complete Mindat.org data is, YES it is quite incomplete and imperfect, with the wrong coordinates for a number of mines. I found how far off some are while researching the over 900 here in our area and at least a third had the wrong location, (in a few c...

Re: USGS Circular# 609 "Mercury in Soil Gas and Air ~~~~~"
Paul and Roy, Does the fact that cinnabar and mercury are both found in the Superstitions become a factor in this discussion? Is it possible that heat would create more mercury vapors which would be carried aloft by the natural updraft of the range? Probably dumb questions, but I'm flying blind her...

Re: USGS Circular# 609 "Mercury in Soil Gas and Air ~~~~~"
The conclusion I make based on this circular is that Hg can be detected in the air above a known Hg deposit in the Superstition Mountains - no more no less, and shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. The connection between Hg content in the air above the Superstitions and precious metals deposit...

Re: USGS Circular# 609 "Mercury in Soil Gas and Air ~~~~~"
Thanks Mike for posting this; one of the USGS geologists noted that it was particularly interesting that the LOWEST detected amount from over the Superstitions was higher than the HIGHEST detected amount from the Dome Rock mountains, an area well known for it mines and precious metal deposits. Orobl...

Joe - a difference of opinion on something as intangible as Atlantis is hardly going to have any effect on our friendship. My own "belief" in its existence has never been ardent, and started out as a non-believer so can't exactly start throwing stones at anyone when I held the exact same v...

Re: CALALUS
Hola amigos, <Joe wrote> The thing about these kinds of things in the Superstitions, is that people have been creating them in modern times. Many of those people you know personally. The other question that comes to mind is, who examined the markings besides them? We may be seeing a typical leap fro...

Re: The Gold
Greetings, Thank you Joe for the very kind words, I hold you in the same regards. Paul put this situation very clearly, that all the info we have publicly, says the Dutchman ore is not epithermal, nor any mention of any tellurides. We cannot take the word of someone who says he or she has seen proof...

Re: The Gold
PS <as if my last post were not long enough already> it occurred to me that some of our readers may not understand the hairs we are splitting here, so it might be helpful to post a good photo of a gold ore that is mesothermal, and thus everyone can compare to the excellent photo just posted by our a...

Re: The Gold
For the sake of our readers who may not be experienced prospectors, here is a bit of info on the two types of gold deposit we are debating. Mesothermal Type Characteristics Mesothermal type- moderate temperatures (200-300°C) and pressures, (approximately 1-5 km depth). *sulphides include cha...

Re: The Gold
Thank you WW, that is a MUCH better photo; however that said, isn't Calaverite normally silvery, silvery-white or brassy yellow and not black? Sylvanite likewise is silvery in color, and would have shown up in the assay done by Holmes as a high silver content which was not the case. For our readers,...

Hola amigos, This is a very long reply so I ask for your patience, thank you in advance. Joe R wrote I may need a little education here, Amigo. I was under the impression we were talking about a telluride combination here. If that is so, I believe all of the ingredients required to create a tellurid...

Re: The Gold
Don't know why, but when we started talking about tellurides in the Superstitions, I immediately thought of this: http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj268/cactus_jumper/INBETTERSHAPE.jpg I believe all of the ingredients for telluride are found in Arizona. Of course, I could be wrong. Joe Interestin...

Re: The Gold
Telluride in AZ? I could only find mention of this in Cochise county, and one single mine in La Paz county. I don't see anything to suggest this would be likely to find in the Superstitions wilderness. I do not buy the epithermal theory of Waltz's mine that some people keep repeating. The photos of ...
