This tunnel was opened in 1959, The people who went into it found some artifacts and also timbering which date it as hipanic. I have do[beep]entation to that effect. The man that led that dig was the central character in " Crooked Mountain<" which tells alot of the story of the history beh...

Gilamonsters

To D.Hunter

I have to say I agree with yopu on the gila monsters, but my webmaster thought they were great. So for now I guess they'll appear. Maybe we can slow them down.

Hello Ron,

If you can contact me at the email address supplied I have a couple of questions about one of your digs a few years back. While I wont go into details on this forum I know the dig was on a certain black topped mountain (NOT Black Top Mesa!), east of Labarge. This particular mount...

I like the web site, and hope more people start posting things. But please, lose the little gila monsters that keep crawling all over the screen and stopping on top of whatever I'm trying to read!

Excavation

I would like to know more about what you've found. A Spanish tunnel, you say? You must have found artifacts already to verify your claim to the feds - what sort of artifacts? Do you get to keep part of the loot, or only the publicity? How does that all work?

Ron's Book

Independant endorsement: I read Crooked Mountain, and really enjoyed it. Very interesting perspective on some Arizona history I thought I knew. I haven't read Zig Zag Canyon yet, but I keep meaning to pick it up. You write well, keep it up!

They were probably referring to Al Morrow, who died at his camp in Needle Canyon in 1970 when a boulder crushed him. From all accounts he was a nice guy.

Dracos and lizard men

Yes. It's all true, there are dracos and lizard men out in the Superstitions. They are the minions of the race of tiny Dutchmen that inhabit the center of the earth and come to the surface at Weavers Needle. Phil should avoid the mountains by all means. The safety of the galaxy depends on it!

I guess you never know what you find...

While casually researching the LDM, I found this odd "account". The most obvious question is: is there a real Phil Allen (common name, huh?)?

Subject: The Superstition Mountains And The Dracos. Jan. 16, 2001.

Gather round ye hearties and I will spin a little tale ab...

Thank you for the comment on Crooked Mountain. Glad you enjoyed it. I apoligize to all for not responding quicker to the bulletin board sooner, but not being a computer person and still getting to know my way around it, I just found this means to post comments today. I have looked for the Dutchman f...

treasure trove permit

What is a treasure trove permit? Does it apply to mined & processed material? Is there a fee? Where may I find more information? On what grounds will the government issue such a permit? Do you need proof, or just tell them ,"I tripped over a gold "boot""? Do you need a permit...

I'd suggest that we could try to think of a constructive way to help fix this problem. Isn't the SMHS composed of all volunteers? So if there are problems getting the journal and newsletter out, maybe some of us could spare some time to help out (assuming that the problem is lack of resources). I se...

The newsletters are also not coming out quarterly, sometimes only twice a year, and there really isn't much in the way of news in them. If the SMHS doesn't start living up to it's part of the deal, I predict a drop in membership renewals.

I inquired about the journal last December and was told the staff had too much work to do and they were trying to edit and proofread the materials for printing. That was 6 months ago. I gathered the staff was busy with other things and the journal took the back burner. This doesn't present a good im...

Seems to me you folks need some sort of "editor-in -chief" person to be responsible for editing and putting together the journal. This can be a daunting task for someone doing this in their spare time, or who needs to handle a half-dozen or so other chores and still worry about the tedious...
