Aurum, Dont fret any on the date mix up. Everyone here admires your grasp on the history of the mystery.... Now, I'd be interested to know who Hutton & co were chasing. My guess (based on geography) would be Nanni-Chaddi and his renegade Yavapais...they often get lumped in as "Apache" ...

Aurum,

Thought the time frame for the discovery of the "massacre" was the 66'-67' wintertime period. '68 seems a tad late to me.

At 20.00 per ounce he would have had 35 pounds of gold for the $7000.00 figure talked about.... Bill I think your math is off a tad. 35 lbs of gold x 16 oz = 560oz. Then, 560oz x $20 one would get $11,200. I think you neglected to convert the 35 lbs into ounces (and then left out a zero)while doing ...

Wiz

The ore would have come from the same source if we knew for certain that Waltz had a mine. He could have simply found a cache or two..which might account for different descriptions of the ore. While I believe the evidence that there was a mine is fairly strong, we just do not know for certain.

Something else to think about. How much gold ore did Waltz have in his possession to convert it into $7000 in 1881 AT? If the ore was 50% gold (and I am just guessing here it could have been 90% for all I know) and gold was approximately $18-20 per ounce. That would mean $7000 / 20 =350oz x 2 (50% o...

Excellent post. I had only heard the best of things about Mr Chamberlain.

To those who know where I spent Thanksgiving. Mission accomplished.
Feets hurt like all hell though.....

I did not say that the first time a reference to rose quartz was in the 1933 Mitchell book. For all I know, there could have been references earlier than that, I just have not come across any. I do not beleive that the LDM ore is of rose quartz, though there might have been some rose coloring in lar...

Mr Joe,

The description of the rose quartz was interlaced with "Mitchells" clues to the whereabouts of the LDM: 2 room house in the cave, pot-holed canyon,
rock house foundation blah blah. I do not believe it was related to Goldfield at all.

I have a copy of John Mitchells book LOST MINES OF THE GREAT SOUTHWEST. (Rio Grande Press 1998) Goes on to state "First Published in 1933" Copyright, 1933, by M.F. Rose, Mesa, Arizona About the rose quartz. This book states the following. After describing the shaft and vein of quartz it sa...

Mr Westwood,

I dont know why you are saying those mean things about me. I really did think you were connected with the film. Why would you treat a new person on the forum like that?

Actually Wiz's post seemed to make more sense than most in this thread.

Waltz's caches under three boulders? Probably not.

More likely 3 spires.....
