Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Now Joe, The Monte Cristo doesn't fit the description of the Lost Padres Mine. The Monte Cristo as we know it didn't get going until the late 1880s. If there was another hardrock mine there prior to that, there is no proof that I know of. There are another set of very old mines that fit better, and ...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Joe, You were absolutely right. There are several old hardrock mines in the San Gabriel Mountains. None of them are very close to the East or North Forks of the San Gabriel River. The East Fork is where all the hydraulic mining was done. Access to many of the hardrock mines is restricted due to wild...

Chuck Kenworthy Info Based Monument Trail

Okay, I keep seeing people posting on different forums about how Chuck Kenworthy did this or that for this or that motive. They didn't know the man, and know very little about him period. Some people say that he made up all the symbols in his books. I am here to say this is not true (or if it is, I ...

Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

One other thing: CK was not a treasure hunting philanthropist. He was in it for the money. Plain and simple. If the knowledge base of mankind was enhanced, then all the better, but he was in it for the money. By my understanding of how things happened, he spent an awful lot of money bribing archivis...

Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Joe, Yer killin' me! By the late 1960s-early 1970s Chuck Kenworthy was a Southern California Real Estate Multimillionaire. Someone would have to prove to me that ALL of his books netted him more than a few thousand dollars. What 99.9% of people don't realize is that all those book...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Joe, Thanks for that. I have been up both East and North Forks more times than I can count, and have only found one or two exploration holes (about 10-20 feet deep). Check your book if you don't mind for a time frame on those hardrock mines. The oldest one I can find mention of was opened in 1870. M...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Jim, There were no hardrock mines along the San Gabriel River. It was all hydraulics, sluicing, and panning. Trust me, I live about five minutes from Azusa Canyon/San Gabriel River. The Bradshaws are another story, but I doubt he dragged a bunch of gold ore INTO the Supers to cache it. Remember what...

Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

Azmula, Thanks for the reference to my website. To anyone that doesn't know me from TNet or DUSA, those are the places I am called Gollum. I had planned on using it everywhere, but it was already used in a couple of places, so I used my real name (here for one). Although I have never been shy about ...

Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

Hey Garry, No, I haven't fleshed out the whole thing yet. They could have been found at Queen Creek, or they could have been pulled from the floor of the Arizpe Mission. Honestly, to me, if the maps are of Jesuit origin, then the Arizpe Mission origin makes the most sense. I can't REALLY say, though...

Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

.No matter what the relatives say, Azmula's Theory (from his article), still seems to hold water for me. Here's why (Letter from Mel Brower to Richard Peck): The first quote is in answer to the family email that stated unequivocally that Travis had never searched in the mountains to solve the maps. ...

Re: THE GENUINE STONE MAPS

The Jesuit Order was suppressed for (primarily) one of two possibilities: 1. As some would have us believe that the Jesuits were set up as bad guys by those that didn't like the power, influence, and wealth they had accrued. 2. ..........and this is the real reason, as Azmula stated, the Bourbon Kin...

Re: The Stone Maps

Pip, Just a small detail, but they were called "visitas" not "vistas". A visita was under the auspices of a particular mission (hence "visita Tumacacori"). It was a place controlled and visited by the Father of the Mission responsible for its' visita. A place might get the title "visita" if there we...

Re: The Stone Maps

PIP, I agree completely. Alan, What he meant was that he doesn't really care one way or another (as in "I don't have a horse in that race"). Now, if you are just referring to the part of the story about deciphering the H/P Stone to find the others, then it is a possibility that Mitchell made up that...

Also,

If you believe that the Latin Heart is authentic, then you had better reassess you theory, as the Latin Heart was supposedly found right near where the others were supposedly found.

Re: The Stone Maps

Alan, I just corrected your opinion that Clarence Mitchell made up the story. It was around MANY years before Mitchell came into the story. If it was BS, then why would he lie to his uncle? Even go so far as to draw him a map to the bogus find location? His uncle had the maps for some years and alon...

Sorry Alan, But that story is what Travis told to his uncle Robert in 1949. Travis even drew Robert a map showing exactly where he found them. It is also the same story Travis told to his friends that knew about the stones when he had them. Believe what you want, but you should base your beliefs on ...

Re: The Stone Maps

I still hold to my thoughts that the Stone Maps were made by Jesuits, and if there was anything on them that said "St Francis Xavier" "IHS" "Jesuit" or anything else of the like, I would consider it proof against their authenticity. If they were indeed made by Jesuits to guide later Jesuits to their...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Sorry Mike, My memory is not getting any better. I seem to recall that you told me you had never, personally, been in the Supes'. That puts your opinions in an entirely different light. Take care, Joe Joe, I apologize. I did, at one time, tell everyone that I had never been in the Supers. At the ti...
