Concentration Room

Hi Ron, I really enjoyed Crooked Mountain, and Deep Fault, as well as Jesse's book. I also picked up Jack San Falice's book which I think is about the same location. What I noticed was no one mentioned looking for the concentration room where Bud Dunn supposedly found the Bible. Were the concentrati...

Re: Marion Walker Claims

I finally fulfilled a long term dream last week of hiking to Bluff Springs Mountain. I also got the opportunity to listen to Clay Worst give his talk on the Lost Dutchman. He gives the Holmes version of things but he also said that that Waltz suggested he would go with Julia & Rheiney to the Cav...

Re: Marion Walker Claims

Thanks Zentull,

I hope the weather out there is nice the next few weeks, I'm finally going to get a chance to see some of those sites I've read so much about.

Re: Marion Walker Claims

I happened to come across Tom Kollenborn's article which talks about Vance Bacon falling off Weaver's Needle. In there he mentions the "Linesbra ranch". Is that the same place (mispelled) as the house and barn built by Linesba which Zentull mentioned earlier in this string?

Re: Almost buried alive

Alan,

That is a new twist to her search! For her the stone tablets led to the interior of Weaver's Needle? Seems you have an interesting angle that hasn't been shared before! Hope you will give more of the story.

Re: Almost buried alive

Thanks Alan,

Your LDM comments make a lot of sense. Since you were after the Jesuit treasure, what did you think of Marie Celeste Jones? As for spelling, thank goodness for spellcheck!

Re: Almost buried alive

Alan,

Wow, you are the only dutch hunter I've ever heard of truly ending the search in such a dramatic way! Since you are done looking but still believe it exists I'm curious what is your best guess of where it is located and why it hasn't been found.

Re: Lost Dutchman Mine 1920

Thanks Joe, From your info I read Jim Hatt's postings and Tom Kollenborn's article on this and it sure sounds like this. One thing that is different is that this mine drifts at the 100 foot level while Jim Hatt describes the drifts at 30 feet. I wonder if the Miller Mine went deeper and then was fil...

Lost Dutchman Mine 1920

I saw a couple of articles (attached) from 1920 that were about finding the Lost Dutchman mine shaft near Fish Creek hill. It didn't say who the discoverers were. Does anyone have information on this episode?

Re: Travis Tumlinson and the Stone Maps

Joe, I always had the feeling Bob Ward was involved. The apparent evidence that Tumlinson carved the tablets seems to add to that. I don't have any books with me but here is what I recall: Tumlinson had done the drive through Arizona multiple times. He could carve but he didn't know the mountains. W...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

Jacob Waltz was very explicit in his clues that the LDM was indeed in the Superstition's However, some do not believe that the clues were remembered correctly by Julia. Still there is the evidence that Waltz's sojourns into the mountains and back to Phoenix with gold took only 4 days, a challenge fo...

Re: The Lost Dutchman Mine: Does it exist?

I would also ask is it still the LDM if it is not in the Superstitions? In the early years when the LDM stories first started spreading there was just as much belief it was in Goldfield or Four Peaks as in the Supers. If one of those was the real location it is very likely the mine was found and wor...

Re: Baker Looney

Really interesting seeing the pictures of Baker Looney. I remember as a kid, the book on Magill's search was the first thing I ever read about the LDM and there was Baker Looney a few years removed from high school climbing the side of Bluff Spring mountain like a monkey! He found all that stuff tha...

Re: Purnell and Keenan….what ever happened to them?

Garry, It was a very small section of a full page article about old ghost towns in Nevada coming back to life for various reasons. There was a long distance picture of Purnell leading three burros, but otherwise nothing else on Purnell or the Dutchman. I don't remember an author listed but there was...

Re: Purnell and Keenan….what ever happened to them?

Purnell seemed to be trading on his association with Ruth. This is from an article in the San Antonio Light July 25, 1937: "L.F. Purnell, veteran prospector of Idaho and Nevada, who has seen "ghost cities" rise and fall, is heading to the Winnemucca, Nevada region. Purnell gained cons...

Re: Barry Storm

I'm going back to an old question I had five years ago. Did Barry Storm really find what he claimed? At this point I'm of the opinion he probably manufactured one of his two greatest finds - the marker cactus. Seems likely he found the areas he wanted to point to, then shoved the stones into the cac...

Senner's Gold

I haven't read the Senner story in awhile, but didn't it end with the implication that Senner must have moved the gold? I think he moved it down from the mountain peaks and it was later found. When I read the newspaper article from 1935 about a Charles Williams having gold with him and claiming to f...

Kessler Maps

Those are interesting posts. Perhaps Kessler made his maps just from the books and articles he read? He could have gotten the light sign and the Black Top mine from Storm's book. Didn't Storm also talk about a placer in the Peralta story? He could have gotten the smelter from the article on Charles ...

Lee Kessler

In Bob Lee's book he had 3 maps that he had received from Lee Kessler. These maps supposedly impressed Ed Piper. One map showed a mine on Black Top Mesa. I've searched this site and several books and I can't find any other reference to Kessler, who was supposed to be a long time prospector. Does any...

Pictures of site

Zentull, I looked at the pictures you posted. They are really good photos! Thanks! Marion Walker Claims

I believe Barry Storm has a picture of the old tunnel entrances in one of his book editions. The 1940 article says that the tunnels had "crude timbering" and "ox-cart trails". Most interesting to me, it says "Even the tailings ... contain plenty of gold ore." A November...

Deering at Silver King

Joe, That sounds like pretty complete documentation alright. Let me go to the other end of the Deering saga, is there any documentation for when Deering first showed up and got the job at the Silver King? I'm wondering if his tenure at the mine might have been several years. If so perhaps Deering's ...

Deering Death

Re-reading some old posts I keep seeing the one thing about Deering that is taken as a given is his death in 1885. In doing a search I'm not finding the source for that information. Is there a newspaper account of Deering's death?
