Re: Helen Corbin's Olbers Manifest

Starman, Don Shade was a great man to those that knew him well. He was like a grandfather to me. We miss him very much. Though many of us do not see the mountains as Don did, we know that he firmly believed in his own search and his own philosophy (which was very deep and in the light of the truth)....

Re: Missing Hiker In The Superstitions

Randy, Happy New Year pal! I read a thread on Capen that gave some more info. His mother posted a couple times on that thread - Capen is a physically capable man and capable in the back country. Cane Springs is on the Peters Pack Trail, just before a big climb to the pass, going to Peters Canyon. Hi...

Re: Missing Hiker In The Superstitions

Joe,

Where do you think this Jesse Capen is?

Only knowing what I have read here about Capen, I think he is in Pistol Canyon.

Can anyone give a full story? Anyone have any ideas where he is?

Re: Missing Hiker In The Superstitions

Joe, I can hardly believe those requests made by the Sheriffs' offices. They are absolutely ridiculous! We are not untrained and we know those mountains better than they do, by far.... And we do have a better understanding of some dynamics. If someone does find a body, we know what to do - don't tou...

Re: The Trail of Jacob Waltz’s Gold Ore

I have two issues with this report, so far. 1. This analysis says the ore came from the Tortilla Caldera. How did they come to that conclusion? Most of the Superstitions have the same geology, all created the same way during the same geologic period. As some of the experts suggest, there are three c...

Eldorado, I almost feel the same about this, however, everyone into all that is Dutchman should be interested in where Dutchman ore came from. Klondike, If I understand you correctly, you are pointing out that the mineralization of the ore is more important than what degrees the quartz was deposited...

Klondike,

Glover's book, page 281 -

Dutchman, Camp, and Kochera ores have mesothermal quartz. Goldfield ores have epithermal quartz.

Novice, Great post. I believe Ruth could have been seen here or there, however, I do not put much credit into Rose or Howland. It is possible they gave false information to bury the truth a little deeper. This may be why Adams did not include Howland's testimony. Any thoughts on that? It is pretty h...

All, In-order to save some poor sole from getting into trouble I offer this: Mayhoon27 asked the wrong questions. If some poor sole answers yes to Mayhoon27’s questions he/she could be in serious trouble, even jail. Some people look at Mayhoon27’s questions as entrapment, since most of us can give e...

TGH, Considering the Gassler died on top theory: I still do not know where Gassler's camp was or where he might have been when he died, so I am at a bit of a loss as to who could have seen him and where, however, if Jake's boys were involved, including the packer, they would have been able to contro...

TGH, Your probably right about the gold samples, if there was any to begin with. LDM is delicately showing us a story. By reading his words, Gassler's body would have been taken by the packer to the spot where it was found. Jake's camp did not want the body to be found in their area? Make sense? The...

All, The packer that we are talking about could have gone all the way to Peter's Mesa and back, however, I can not remember if I have ever done it, and I surely will not do it now. The round trip is a horse killer. I have done something similar to what some have suggested. I packed camp in to Charli...

The following posted by Novice shakes things up a bit. "1984, May 4, (Friday) – Gene Baker and Don Shade find the body and by the time that Dr. Olsen examined the body Gassler has been dead 2 or 3 days." If Shade and Baker found the body on Friday then Dr. Olsen would not have seen the bod...

I have a problem with Gassler only spending three days and how this story is unfolding. Looks like to me that Gassler had intended on confirming what he thought to be the LDM, but that his elderly situation prohibited him from keeping his planned schedule of reaching camp the first day, an easy hike...

Novice, Gene Baker had lived and worked at the Ok Corral. Don had come and gone through the years. Sometimes he stayed as much as years. Don was in his upper years the whole time I knew him, and he was not any kind of person to survive by himself with livestock. Gene was his guide, and I suppose, as...

Gene Baker

Novice, Gene Baker worked for the Ok Corral Pack Stables, drifting through with his family. He was a good hand, a good cowboy, and horseman. I don't remember how long he worked for the Ok. Probably three years plus. I don't know where he went, but if I remember right about eight years ago we heard t...

Sorry to hear that Joe. If it is any relief or consolation, Chuck had diabetes as long as I knew him. He probably did not have the best personallity for that disease. Chucky

All, Just to clear up something. Charles “Chuck” Kenworthy had spent lots of time in the mountains after 1984. I packed Chuck on his last trip into the mountains with OK Corral Pack Stables in 1996 or 1997. I believe he died in 1998. Chuck had spent all of those years, the time in question, between ...

Maybe this has been said in the past pages. As I understand it: Don saw a backpack at the discovery of Gassler. Roland's imposter told Tom that he acquired the backpack from the sheriff's office, but later, when this was checked, the sheriff's office said that there was no backpack. Also, isn't it t...

For whatever it's worth, Gassler's story is tough to crack. Speaking in short, and only on one of the unknowns. I knew Don Shade very well, who found Gassler. Don had identified another person near the discovery site of Gassler's body. To my knowledge, Don took that information to his grave. However...
