Re: The Stone Maps
Hi Joe Yes I have handled the equivalent copies at SMHS and photographed them. I believe everyone agrees they are fired clay, not stone. There is only one way to settle their authenticity in my court. The heart could be manufactured and be accurate in describing terrain but if it matches. Finds of t...

Re: The Stone Maps
Perhaps I erred in my recall. I checked my notes and the statement at the museum simply says the Silverbell road on the way back from Picture Rocks. So yup I agree, not at the mine, on the mine road instead. Same questions arise. Why there ? When ? Lastly I suspect the Latin heart to be manufactured...

Re: The Stone Maps
From the maps @ SMHS and my explorations it's a fair guess nothing was left I investigated and many mine were lost in massacres or rebellions in general. I have found Spanish mines all along the. established Coronado trail. That includes northern AZ. From what I see we may want to acknowledge that i...

Re: The Stone Maps
Not having participated in locating the present copy of the Presidio I accept your point without concern. To return to the point, Zuniega was the first military command to go north after Coronado and he went north from Tucson by the San Pedro to the Gila. It was the first direct route. Why do that ?...

Re: The Stone Maps
Hello I do not think Zuni were engineers in the European sense, but the Swiss were. Montezuma sent his 'engineering' staff to show them how to build better buildings, better pottery and any other little improvements he could. The source I read say the Aztecs sought an empire that spanned from LA to ...

Re: The Stone Maps
Welcome There are no arguments. There is only a large amount of information laid on the table to arrange. Wickpedia : " The Pima Revolt, or the O'odh am Uprising and the Pima Outbreak, was a revolt of Pima native Americans in 1751 against colonial forces in Spanish Arizona and one of the major ...

Re: The Stone Maps
Hi Joe ! I've been trying to connect up with you for I have questions the old postings raise for me. Perhaps here or off line, your choice ! I need new feedback on the question, because I read all the pasted copies before. I was left with the impression you thought it was possible but no evidence th...

Re: The Stone Maps
Greg's paper as I recall was on the rack @ SMHS. When I get home I will verify all citation info. It was one of those stapled papers with a jacket likely from a copy machine. I recall Greg as the author but I may err, he might have cited it ( as is his works from time to time). In regards to Joe I h...

Re: The Stone Maps
Hmmm thank you! Good reference. The reason I am seeking these is I have found a rather large one in SM. this one however is a ' plus sign with bobbed tips. It is rather large so I had to photograph it from some distance. The only similar cross I can find is in paintings in museums in Mexico that are...

Re: The Stone Maps
OK, so I will take my best shot. I have good eyes for these things. In my experience ( since 1959 ) it's clear that until recent history anyone could mark up the landscape. I have found whole stories chiseled into volcanic stones suitable for petroglyphs at Hohokam sites but in very old German. Seem...

Re: The Stone Maps
Hi , I would be willing to go check it, photograph it in hi-res with a telephoto. Perhaps you could post a Google Earth (c) coordinate for a good place to shoot from? I could email it or perhaps post it in the Gallery ? What do you think ?
